You will have downsides during your Preliminary journey, I think it's better to make mistakes now rather than the HSC. Learn from them. Hassle your teacher and ask what you didn't do well in. We have a speech on Monday. :-(

Totally agree with Spiral.

English is like the biggest WTF for me. When I think I've done well, I fail. When I actually think I've failed, and give up, I get a band 6 mark.

I always think, okay english is my bad subject so try for high 70's

realistically that makes me go bad, but i think i did pretty well today.

Only problem is i need all my subjects to get ~85 in the HSC exam to get in my uni course with ease

During my time, I have found that people who generally hate English have never or hardly written before. I dare you to write and get some feedback. See the massive improvements, certainly worked for me this year.

Take the pain and write lots and lots. Hassle your teacher, go to his/her house at midnight, email your teacher, bother your teacher.

My English is very temperamental. Sometimes I do really well, sometimes not, curse its subjectivity! (English was my worst half yearly percentage wise isn't and I'm pretty sure rankwise too). I'll need to redeem it with my assignment, but I have my doubts...

Yr 11's all learning curve for Yr 12 though.

guys, marks aren't as random as you might think. Although marking is ultimately subjective, there is a basis for quality. For example:

Good essays tend to have a structure with much more flow, the points link together coherently rather than a blocky STEEL approach. The language is sophisticated, and the technical analysis is not overbearing, but sufficient and related to deepr conceptual analysis.

Good creative pieces are in short- imaginative and original. The number of people who think they are original when they right some depressing shit with suicide is astounding, don't do this. Try to be truly original and have a story that explores the stimulus directly, not a prepared one with a vague brush of it.
