external hdd not loading up on laptop? (1 Viewer)

hey i have a WD "my passport SE ultra portable hard drive 750gb" and for some reason the hdd loads up on the computer but when i connect the hdd to the laptop the hard drive doesnt load up anymore. does anyone know what is wrong with my hdd and how to fix it? thank

Don't actually do that with the magnet.

Does it need drivers or something installed?

Go to device manager and tell me if there are any yellow warnings like these,

HDD probably die if it not loading on your USB drive...

Suggest you get a new one.... cheap these day... only $179 for a Tgb.. good for porns and such.

The HDD isn't dead, it works in a desktop but doesn't work in a laptop, therefore, the problem lies with the laptop. I'm guessing the laptop's USB controller can't supply enough current, a 2.5" HDD needs like 500 mA on +5 V DC and a 3.5" HDD needs like 1000 mA on +5 V DC.

lol, a Samsung SpinPoint F3 1 TB (probably the fastest consumer mechanical HDD) only costs $59. Anyone who pays that much ($179) for a 1 TB drive is seriously getting ripped off.

im confused .. why would the laptop usb controller cant supply enough curent? when the external hdd use to work on the laptop for the past 5months

I didn't know it had been working for the past 5 months.

Click start, type "computer management" and open it, then click on "disk management".
the virtual cd drive(of the WD HDD) is shown in disk management and it has been assigned a drive letter.. BUT the actual drive isn't shown in"disk management" and doesnt load up in "my computer" and isnt assigned a drive letter
