Commerce subjects tend to scale less because they are seen to have not as high of a difficulty as saying the sciences or the maths so this occurs
That's not actually true. Scaling occurs on the basis of the competitiveness of the candidature of the particular course. Difficulty of a subject is also subject to an individual's perspective, as commerce subjects are more analytical in nature as compared to science/maths subjects which require more problem-solving ability. What one person finds 'difficult' may be found easy by another.

Sorry, but neither of these are true.

The way the marks are aligned depends on the Performance Band Descriptors for each course. A team of judges, who are drawn from the HSC marking team for each subject, determine what raw mark on the exam paper corresponds with the borderline of each of the performance bands.

It is all covered on the Board's website: http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/yourhsc/step8-judges-apply-the-standards.html.

Scaling based on quality of the candidature is done by UAC in determining each student's ATAR, which is completely separate to the Board of Studies and aligning of examination marks.

We weren't talking about the aligning process though. As seen in clintmyster's original post, he said that commerce subjects tend to 'scale less', hence the topic of discussion was scaling. Scaling and aligning are completely different processes, but as I have pointed out, scaling is based on the quality of the candidature for that particular course. (I agree with your idea of how aligning works though, but as I've said, we weren't talking about aligning).

I've just noticed Clintmyster was responding to a post about aligning. I think that's what caused PCNQQn2's post to arise.

Scaling indeed is based on the quality of the candidature for that course. Worth pointing out that scaling for each subject tends to not fluctuate wildly and stay stable because different courses attract a certain level of students who are capable of doing it (e.g. MX2 will probably only attract the top mathematics students).

Yeah, exactly. That's particularly true when it comes to mathematics in particular and the whole spectrum of courses from general to extension 2. However, when looking at other subjects such as sciences versus commerce subjects, it's based on the idea that the candidature is stronger in whichever subject has higher scaling - but to say that one subject is more difficult than other because it scales better is wrong, because as I said above, the difficulty of a subject is relative as each subject requires different skills such as analytical or problem-solving abilities.

If you used the pro-forma, they'll say yes.

Don't apply past February because they may just refer you to their Raw Marks and Exam Scripts service.
Just wondering, what would be the the difference between what we get in the Pro-Froma and their Raw Marks and Exam Scripts Service?
will the latter not have the individual marks for each questions etc?

I don't think anyone knows. I suppose the results they give you through their service will be put into a prettier format of some sort.

Their Service is much more expensive. I can get one exam script back for $30 with their 'service' - or I can get the whole lot (raw marks plus exam scripts for ALL my subjects) for $30 under the Pro-Forma.

This is why I hope they accept my application. I haven't heard anything back yet. :/

Why did you not request an e-copy of everything? Then you get emailed it way before the package arrives. Silly boy is silly. Already know all mine.

I thought requesting an e-copy and photocopies may have been too much...

Well the e-copies are already the original copies really. Your transcripts were scanned onto the computer and then to get the hard copy they have to be printed out anyway. I just requested both, got both.

So you already got the hard copies?

It's Day 20 now - still waiting...

Mine has arrived! =D

It's in this forum in a new thread.
I should change my user title from "Magniloquent member" to "...has waited 21 working days for his Raw Marks (so far). NOT HAPPY BOS"

Did you request e-copies? If not, you're going to be waiting... like me. (See my user title)
