Am considering going to newcastle. Just wondering if anyone has anything they can tell me about the bachelor of design (architecture) and communications. Or anything about the university in general. Thanks in advance

As being a novocastrian and from having a mum who has lectured at the uni, I've grown up in and around the uni. Newcastle has good design and engineering courses as well as many others. It's got a good social vibe and great environment, though you better bring some mozzie spray because sometimes they can get overwhelming when you are walking from class to class (especially if it is across campus ). It may not be in the G8 or anything, but it is still a good uni that offers good courses etc.

Yeh I've heard some good stuff about UNCLE. I think any undergrad degree in architecture is good, as long as you get into the masters you're fine.

Staff qualifications - bottom 20%
Graduate outcomes: getting a job - top 60%, positive outcomes - top 80%, starting salary - top 40%

Architecture:
220 students, 17 int'ls, starting salary average at $34 909 (though other 'average' ones have $47 792 so I'd say that's a typo), 33% of graduates are still seeking work 4 months after graduation.

Communications:
633 people studying it, 89 from overseas - 39% of grads are still looking for work 4 months after graduation.

No CEQ data - i.e. what graduates say.

Thanks bro, useful information. That statistic about communications graduates looking for work is frightening. Is there any chance you could let me know what the book says about the combined business/commerce degree?

Err.. the book doesn't say much about the degrees itself - only essentially repeating what the UAC guide says.

However, for the business and management field at Newcastle:

2627 students, 574 from abroad
$46 887 starting salary (average)
23% of graduates still seek work 4 months after graduating (average)
20% go to further study

Psych at Newcastle is pretty mediocre - Mac and USyd are the best universities for that. But, I guess it's an okay course there; fair bit of research.

According to the Guide - of those with data on graduates - UNSW is the best university in that it is ranked better on 'what graduates say' for all three categories and they have a low amount of graduates seeking work because they mostly get employed.
