why did this old topic get bumped? its the internetzz so swearing is common.

it's pretty obvious you're an international from the way you post, and if you live long enough here or the U.S is common to here ppl gossiping about buying your degree or paying your way through. its essentially what all accounting students are doing nowadays.

loads of international students are sent here by their parents because they 1. couldn't make into a top uni in their own country 2. PR. tbh majority of the unis in australia are shit. when they come here they feel proud of their uni and immediately join clubs and stick really close to their friends who are also international students. esp mainland chinese students (no offense but im speaking the truth) who are too scared and afraid to socialise with the local students hence poor communication skills. by the time they graduate they are jobless.

most of the unis in aust esp sydney, ones with large accounting courses use unethical marketing practices.

compare to the universities or colleges in the U.S.

poor girl got exploited. must read>

You got the very point. 5* vote. Tbh it's not a piece of cake to publicly buy a qualification, but one can do that by hiring ppl for exams, assignments...which is quite popular among Vietnamese and Chinese students (et cetera). And markers will not even give it a shit coz they have some classes to get more money.

Ironically, some cannot face the truth of Oz education and PR. So they must self-motivate (a bit 2 much I suppose), even hallucinate .

Hi guys,

I was reading about your saying that city campus is easy and not as good as North campus and was very upset, thats why I asked one of my lecturer who is now teaching in both City and North campus -Mr Prashan (lecturing in Econ111 and Econ110) and here is what he said:

the materials and exams as well as level of difiiculty of both campuses are the same, but it's easier for students to score higher in MQC because of the small sized classes and the lecturers are also the tutors!

In fact the classes he has in North are ten times bigger than the ones in MQC.
In MQC, the size is maximum 50/lecture and 25/tutorial while in North we have classes of up to 500 students !!!

We have much more interaction with the lecture during both lecture time and tutorial time, and we even can see them right after classes to ask questions directly. Prashan knows all the students in his MQC classes and their academic levels but he hardly knows any names in North classes--> this is what he said and it is true.
he also added that: if you want to compare, you're welcome to his classes in both campuses and learn it yourself!
So you guys, if you have doubts about the standards or any differences between the 2 campuses--> welcome to MQC to check it out. I guess you guys in North have never got the luxury of a small class with lecturers are also tutors, where you can freely discuss with lecturers right in the lecture/tutorial time so you do not notice how such an advantage can cause a big difference in your academic performance. you are welcome to MQC to find out yourself before you want to make any comment about MQC!

Then why the different entry criteria, which seem notably more lax and focussed on upfront payment?

Secondly, the exams are monitored by the city campus. Unless I am mistaking, there is minimal interaction between the city campus and North Ryde staff. In fact, I resent calling it another campus - it is effectively a college.

Minimal??? do you work there? you know what the communication is like?

Thirdly, external auditors (as you call them) are only present to ensure tertiary standards. If you are suggesting that their presence is somewhat reassuring, then you should check out other ... alternate ... universities in Australia, which are also fully certified by these same auditors. It does not support your case.

.
yeah this is an old article get with the times already and this is what happens when jounalist wants to make a story juicy..if the reporters had to do a report on the Campus and the standard teaching levels, it would definitely have changed, the tables would have turned..standards are higher.

Macquarie City Campus is what it is called and Macquarie City College was and partly it was due to the fact that it was offering foundation studies for students and because of that name it has given the campus a wrong impression from the beginning...there's a lot more reasons I'm sure why the name couldn't be called Macquarie University - City campus...I wished someone who is a marketing/management staff member could explain why...

Also to Mathematics 85, I wished they did offer Applied Finance so all my friends could study down here with me...it would be so much fun.

No formal internship at both campuses. Do not self-motivate.

And u're an overseas (student) chick, I dare say?

... The university can't even standardise teaching to be exactly the same as other departments...

I'm sure the exam papers are somewhat difficult, but is that what a university is?

Private college offers Macquarie degrees - National - smh.com.au etc.
Up to you if you think that I am an international student or an auzzie chick, if you spoke to me over the phone, you wouldn't dare say I was an international student...I am still female at the end of the day and I hope you're not a racist nor a sexist person. Also you missed the whole point of what I was trying to get at earlier, the story was bumped off the net and I brought it back to life, so what? I like a good challenge and a good discussion.

Its true marketing can be brutal and can be unethical in education but seriously those people shouldn't be in marketing nor sales...US marketing are top leaders in which I do agree, however Australians are doing pretty well.

I had to check about this quality standards at the city as "PwarYuex" stated they can't standardise the teaching exactly, I went and did some more research and I spoke to Mr Chris Searchfield who is the Academic Director in the city campus. He has a team that ensures that all exams and assessments are the same at North Ryde Campus and all students are treated fairly. I even found out that the staff here at the city campus don't even assess the final exam papers, it gets sent to MQ and they assess it? so your wrong there in saying that the standards are not the same, if its not the same then Macquarie overall would have a bad reputation

My question is to Hungryaussieyum..hahah

Why are there scholarships being offered from different Australian unis and basically they are to attract the strong academic international students? right? surely these international students are not from families who don't want them around and also didn't do academically very well in their studies? "So please explain" as Pauline Hanson would have stated....I spoke to the Macquarie International Marketing team and they mentioned that 85% of the international students are given scholarships, now the scholarships are hard to obtain as they are only given out to strong academically students that have undergone years of studies... how is it possible that these students fit your description?

Can you really buy your way into a degree through this campus? How so? (I'm genuinely asking as I don't know much about this campus).
That's not true at all! :hammer:
I'm a student studying at Macquarie City Campus right now, and it's so unfair to say that a degree can be bought. It's such a ridiculous rumor. Students here are intelligent and diligent. We're doing our best jobs to obtain degrees.

You're bumping a thread that's two years old. Telling people to 'get with the times' is horribly, horribly ironic.

Yes, you're also the same person an Nikki19.

Stop trying to convince us that City Campus is decent. At least if you do, make your posts coherent.
