both are important but mostly ranks if you are talking about assessment mark.

the difference in marks between the ranks will also determine roughly the difference in moderated assessment mark amongst the rank.

For instance 1st and 2nd differ by two marks internally, the newly moderated assessment mark should also somehow reflect this. As long as the distribution of marks reflects the distribution of marks given by the school.

E.g. if you have 90 80 78 60 58 50 as sent marks
the exam marks are 87 75 79 55 60 65

the adjusted marks for assessment marks respectively will be like

87 77 75 62 60 55

Marks because they determine your ranks?

That's like asking what's more important for the body; heart or brain.

When the body was first made, all the parts wanted to be the boss.

The brain said, "since I control everything and do all the thinking, I should be the boss."

The feet said, "since I carry man where he wants to go and get him in position to do what the brain wants, then I should be the boss."

The hands said, "since I must do all the work and earn all the money to keep the rest of you going, I should be the boss."

And so it went with the eyes, the heart, the lungs, and all the other parts of the body, each giving the reason why they should be the boss.

Finally, the asshole spoke up and said it was going to be the boss.

All the other parts laughed and laughed at the idea of the asshole being the boss. The asshole got so angry that he blocked himself off and refused to function.

Soon the brain was feverish and could barely think, the feet felt like lead weights and was almost too weak to drag the body anywhere, the eyes grew bleary, and the hands hung useless at the sides. All pleaded with the brain to let the asshole be declared the boss.

And so it happened; all the other parts did all the work and the asshole just bossed and passed out a lot of crap.

THE MORAL: You don't have to be a brain to be a boss, just an old asshole.

Alternate moral: No matter how well things are going, it can all be shut down by a single asshole.

I love your copy and pasting skills.

Short answer: Try as hard as you can. Knowing which one is more important will not help you. Gaps between ranks matter as well as the ranks themselves.
Yes I copied and pasted it. Most jokes are copied and pasted. sikhman just got a teensy bit insecure over the fact ibbi00 had wrongly credited me for the joke so he had to point it out H3H3

well marks determine ur ranks..so their both important, u can't change ur rank, but u can change ur marks which can change ur ranks :D.

BTW: doesn't scaling work by how well everyone else does in a particular subject, therefore scaling changes every year?... thats why high end subjects scale high because very smart people do them "thus most people do well (80% do well)" and the lower end subjects not so many "smart" people do them so thus the scaling is lower for that subject "as not so many people tend to go well (maybe like 65% get mediocre marks and the other 35% get top end marks"...but if like 5% of the total people got extra ordinary marks for a low end subject, that subject would scale high for them anyways...right?

so for lower end subjects, there is less competition than harder subjects..but it depends on ur abilities.
