Hey Harry,

Was just taking a look at your photobucket pics and that layout you have done of the Northbridge store is massive! I'm assuming this is your store?

How many express and big checkouts would you have open on a Saturday?

I felt so sorry for our smokeshop ops today. They had two people in there until say 7, then one there till 9.

I love how people think that just because our thurs night smokeshop op is 15 and looks it, that they can treat her like shit. I mean, I'm not that much older (or authoritative) than her, but as soon as I stepped in to deal with all the irate people and their various issues, they stopped.

We were up on sales by about 35k, and saves zillions in wages. It was crazy, like you know how I was supposed to have been an operator tonight - fat chance. Express went me, MMacka, LLM (who was DM tonight). My CSM was on a main, coz the alternative would have been to deal with the idiots at smokeshop.

They are idiots in that place though - I asked for this saturday and next thursday off, they gave me both saturdays off. WTF?

Im hoping that the bogans will be so pissed off with the rise in price that they stop buying smokes...but thats just wishful thinking. I rekon there will be alot of angry bogans on the streets soon, and i guess other smokers will get angry too, but mainly the bogan smokers will act upon the anger, i guess.

Ha, best quote from my foreign policy tutor today:
"Okay guys, its neccessary that you understand the difference between terrorists and bogans"

Yeah that has no relevance. I don't even know what we were talking about.

I'm fairly sure one woman wanted to slash my throat with her credit card because I would not sell her "every last packet of Winnie Sky Blues in the store". Six carton limit, loser.

I have way too much fun with the bogans.

What a crap night in Smokeshop. We ended up with approx 5 cartons left. And the load came. We were expecting 5-10 boxes. But Noooo, They send us 3 boxes :(. Feel so sorry for tomorrow`s Smokeshop Op. The Cupboards are pretty bare. Liquor dropped off a list of cigarettes they needed. CSM took one look, screwed it up and chucked it in the bin. Not going to happen.

Thanks Heaps Kevin Rudd & Colleagues. Made a good night crap!

:(

EDIT: We had someone clean us right out of Winnies at 7. Total cost was over $900. How anyone can spend that much on those cancer sticks is beyond me!

Oh and that reminds me, no longbeach yellow for tomorrow :( And I have close in smokeshop tomorrow.

I pretty much do that to liquors lists all the time.

Haha sucks for you, i dont think we have a limit, or that i know of in Vic. But we ran out of alot of smokes today, and bloody Kevin wanting to change the cigarette packaging to a standard colourless generic packaging. Thats how i distinguish smokes, i know which draw holds what smokes, and then i pull out the colour, now im going to have to double check my read.

It must be state specific, because my SSM caught me at the finger scanner this arvo and told me it - seems important for him to tell me something serious BEFORE he insults me.
Todays insult: you're such a slacker, who even needs holidays.

But that packaging change isn't till 2012. I do not plan on sticking around that long ;)

me too - grad mid 2013, thats without failing and without honours (which is actually pretty likely)

I've dragged my uni experience out too long already. But there is something to be said for $1.60 train fares into the city, beer tasting in the tav at lunch (I'm not kidding, my uni gave out free beer today - so much for RSA :S), and everything else that the student life brings. I'm not even that broke, and living at home isn't killing me.

Wish my uni gave out free beer more often, the only thing we get free is an earful from the socialists.

Wow you gave a 6 carton limit? We were more harsh with a 3 carton limit.

I work in a relatively non-bogan area, the problem we had is asians coming and stocking up for their own shops. You could tell they were because they trie to buy multiples every different relatively popular carton. We theorized that the sales tax must be paid when they buy the goods, as opposed to when they are sold, otherwise they wouldn't bother.

We get them buying mobile phone recharges for their stores too when they're on sale, and on other good specials, like chocolate bars and coke.

When lettuce prices were allegedly going to hit ~$7 each following the big storn in Perth, we had a woman come in and try to buy 70 lettuces the day before the price rose. She went OFF when we told her no, luckily the area manager was in at the time to put her in her place.
Six cartons is the limit on our licence. But like I said, bogan area. We weren't arguing.
I'm presuming you're in the western suburbs, haha?
It was only yesterday that my CSM and I were talking about the day that a woman hit me over a packet of smokes. Some of the bogans are a bit violent you see.
We get the same with the shops though, especially chocolate.

Wish my uni gave out free beer more often, the only thing we get free is an earful from the socialists.
I never drink beer, but hey, it was free :p

I ignore the socialists/environmentalists/anyone who gives a shit about anything.

Greenpeace chick: Do you care about the environment?
Me: No, not really.

Love uni.

Biggest thing happened today.

Well I walked out of the freezer after spending about 30 mins in it and then brought all my boxes of frozen products to Bakery and then walked back to the freezer to hang my coat up. So I hang my coat up, stand there for a few seconds and then walk into backdock.

Where I hanged my coat up there is 2-door fire exit.

So anyways as soon as I walked into backdock an alarm/siren sounded, I thought thats a bit weird and my first thought was perhaps a trolley accidently pushed the fire exit door open (as it has happened before-real old fire exit door). Then someone from Bakery came running over saying they saw someone run through the door and a customer said they saw someone run out. Sure enough I looked at the door and the plastic seal was broken.

So I run outside to the backdock yard (our store has an outside bit). The fire exit actually would be useless in a fire situation because it leads to a fenced in area. No one was in the yard.

So then I run over to the phone, I consider calling a service 100 over the PA but there were already like 20 staff members that had been alerted due to the alarm that were hanging around. So then I try to call a manager on the phone, no one picks up and then I run to express where the duty manager is serving. Told her what was going on and she just thought it was a false alarm and just turned it off.

So then we both go into the yard and there was a door that can be opened from the inside to get out. Then we went outside and asked the trolley contractors who don't speak any English if they saw anything. They said they did, but couldn't tell us anything else.

So then me and the duty manager go upstairs to check the cameras and surely enough we were able to track the guy that ran out the door on the camera and get a reasonable sized picture shot. He had something black in his hand, either a handbag/purse or a packet of meat. We weren't able to get a clear shot of his face because he wasn't looking directly at the camera. But we switched to another view from the front of the store facing all the way to the back of the store and we could make out a very fuzzly figure hanging around meat. We didn't have enough time to check the front-end cameras because we had no idea when he entered the store or through which entrance (front gates, liquor or a checkout).

Its times like this I love working for woolworths, the thrill and excitement of running around the store, checking cameras and working out what happened. Duty manager is going to let the SM know tomorrow morning, then probably phone loss prevention and maybe even get a better view of the persons face on the camera. Hoping that it gets posted on one of those red alert things on the wall. :D

It's weird that both Australia and New Zealand are whacking huge excise taxes on Ciggies - at the same time. Ours have gone up by 10%, and will go up a further 10% next year and a final 10% in 2012. Tobacco has gone up an extra 24%.

I hate it how people try and push their opinions of smoking onto someone who does smoke. Everybody has a vice in life, whether it be cigarettes, alcohol, chocolate etc and who gives a shit if it's Smoking? It's their choice if they want to smoke, and I just wish every body would leave them a lone. They know the risks, they've had to watch the TV adverts millions of times, and if they still choose to light up then so what?

Couldn't they have given us more warning? Gosh. Turns out we don't actually have a limit, but the SM imposed a three carton limit for the afternoon/night. No one even tried to exceed it though, the people in my town are such rusted-on smokers that a tax hike is like stabbing an elephant with a safety pin.

The CSM told me that I get to train the new supervisor(s) that she chooses! She sees it as some sort of punishment for me leaving but i'm totally excited. I'm making a set of modules and stuff that we will work through. My number one gripe about Woolworths is the nonexistent standardised training for service supervisors.

Our CSM set a 5 carton limit, but the customers could buy more if she allows it.

I feel so sorry for whoever is in smokeshop today. Nothing Left!

Nicola Roxon is on ABC2 New Breakfast. She said that the PHTF actually advised the government that the excise should be raised by 60%, but the gov't settled for 25%. Now THAT would have been the apocalypse.
