So do you guys have to answer Express call alerts?

I used to but I refuse to now becuase if I'm going on Checkouts every 5 minutes then I'm not getting any of my own work done.

Yes, the supervisor fails mystery shopper/MOS if they are not calling express alerts. That doesn't neccessarily mean we are responsible if people don't respond - ie I always call meat staff on public holidays that I know can't help, but the managers insist that we HAVE to be calling.

Stocking up to ensure they don't run out on public holidays Derp! Just the same money they would have spent on individual packets the following days anyway lol

We were only closed friday, we're open today. Best shift ever, 4-7, whole shift in cash office with only like an hours worth of work to do.

Do you sell JPS? People always used to ask for them. They're cheap like Brandon aren't they? Oh i love stereotyping people by their cigarettes.

OH MY GOD YES! JPS are the cheapest of cheap, they're even cheaper than choice. Last week Holiday 50s went above $20, people were having aneurisyms (yeah prob spelt that wrong) at the counter. So funny.

I hell judge people by what they're buying. Best part about working smokeshop, IMO.

You should try arguing with your Store Manager, it is actually very fun. My SM and I have massive debates about politics/current affairs. Also about work related areas.

Re: Lockers - There are only 6 Lockers available for the guys in our store...which isn't that bad considering there are only 11 males out of 89 staff in our store. I don't have one but there is a lockable cupboard in produce that the produce manager and I put our stuff in. It's pretty good as we are the only ones with keys, so no one else has access I've checked on the SM's set, SSM's set, DM's set and also the key safe in the cash office.

Same with C/outs, there is a cupboard up the front where c/out staff put their bags and stuff in.

Our SM was not happy when he saw everyones bags strewn across the service desk floor yesterday - our cupboard is nowhere near big enough on saturdays (because there is more staff, and none of them have lockers), so they end up at one corner.
We've still had stuff stolen though, one of the supervisors had a brand new phone stolen a few years ago.

It is a fact for our store that the majority of deadbeats lie within the Deli.

And once at my old store me and my sister were in doing the shopping and the sole Deli Assistant was so intent on cleaning that after 5 mins i had to purposely run the trolley into the side of the deli to attract his attention.

Unfortunately, that's so true for us as well

That requires me to do a LOT more work. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
And the fact that they call in sick so freaking often ... just pisses me off >=/

Regarding lockers issue - i don't have a locker, just bring my bag and put it on top of the lockers. hardly anything valuable inside - but the times that I do have valuable stuff inside, nothing has been taken. I do get paranoid though.

So did anyone here do an April Fools joke on staff members?

I did......We had a truck on Wednesday and weren't getting another truck until Saturday. The Wednesday truck was a huge one with the perishable and produce fridges jam packed and the back dock packed as well. It was worse than Christmas!

Thursday morning I decided to do an April Fools joke. I got on the PA at 9:30am and announced the truck had arrived and for all required staff to come to the back dock. I waited about 30 seconds and then said, "April Fools....just kidding!" The next minute I hear this "Damn you, TG Fan!!!" and other staff pissing themselves laughing. I was told later on that some customers burst out laughing too when they saw the commotion it caused on the shop floor....hehehehe!

Apparently the SSM (she receives the load) was up the front end and ran to the back dock to try and figure out what the hell was going on. The produce manager ran to his fridge and opened it up to wonder how the hell he was going to fit anymore stock in the fridge. Someone in the perishables department wasn't happy with the joke because they also panicked.....but who cares!

The only one I didn't get was our SM. He said, "I knew you were lying." Bugger!

For the next 4 weeks I'm substituting the SSM while she's on holidays and training the new SSO at the same time.....shit and double shit! I'll be so happy when the SSM comes back 'cause then it's time for me to look for another job!

on thursday, I played a prank on one of my staff members. I was like "did you do the 4 lavish roll platters (one of the mostannoyingg ones todo) and cook the 20 chickens for the customer order at 9am?"

she absolutely panicked. should've seen the look on her face. haha. mind you, this was at 8-30am and takes about 30mins minimum to complete one of those platters. =p
when she went around to look for the order slip (i was serving customer) i was like "APRIL FOOLS!" haha. customer laughed as well and was like "keep on laughing!"

That's the same with my store, deli always has the most sickies in the whole store, the poor 2ic is always on the verge of a meltdown by 12pm, as they are also quite understaffed.

Yeh that's what I always used to do if I didn't have a locker, but I'd stick a padlock on my bag. I hate to think people would steal form their coworkers but I've seen a few instances of theft and some proven cases which led to termination.

Come to think of it, what I did was the worst possible thing but we both laughed about it. 5pm, peak hour, well away from April Fools Day (I think it was September), I was getting sick of people asking if I was open. What I did was not premeditated. When I was vacant, a customer came and I said "Sorry, I'm closed" she started getting pissy then when I said "NOT!", it was a laughfest. I have a guilty squirm because it could have so gone the other way, which would have been disastarous. Fortunately, I have not done that again. I have quit while I was ahead. Still, Who Dares. Wins.

I found out today that apparently all coles employees at my local store have been told that if they see anyone from woolworths in store they have to let a manager know.

A few weeks ago my Bakery DM and homeshop DM got escorted out by the Coles store manager. Only because she was given a list by my STM to look for specials and it wasn't her dept so she needed to use pen/paper. Apparently if your just browsing they won't ask you to leave but if you start writing stuff down they kick you out.

So now we do the same thing but change out of uniform or wear a jumper.

Also I heard Woolworths is ringing up Coles employees (SM's etc) and offering them jobs with better pay. Some of them are taking the offers. My STM told me it was annoying because there are less promotion opportunities.

However, when we go in there, there have been circumstances where we have been kicked out.

FUCKING we were so busy on Saturday..every register open from 8am to 7.30pm..sales were really good.

I love having CSM office access, when I'm on s/vision I look up people scan rates and write them in red on the grids and if its under 13 I'm like FASTER and I'll give you a freddo frog..it actually works! At the end of the shift it goes up from 13 to about 15+
Office cashier access is also awesome =D

Um so on saturday i called a grocery boy for trolley return and then after he'd finished he was like 'cool can i have my free water' and i was like '???' and he was like 'yeah it's policy, if we get trolleys we get a free bottle of water' and just picked up a mount franklin out of the fridge. The CSM later confirmed it's policy.

Can anyone else confirm? That's ALOT of free water just for guarding against lawsuits by overheated trolley boys.

I start work at 4pm. There is a pickup waiting for me to triple check (don't ask, they somehow found a zillion errors in it that didn't exist LOL). The other SSA is just about to head on tea, when our SSM walks in.

Me: I'm bored, do you have anything for me to do.
SSM: Nah (as he's picking up RTC rolls)

Most of our trolley boys buy 2L home brand orange juice and skull it while their eftpos is processing.

That said, they're indian contractors who barely speak english.

Most of our trolley boys just bring their own bottle of water and put it in the fire hose / broom cupboard.

We have two of the water coolers - one in the tea room and one in the bakery which service staff use to fill our water bottles. The bakery one is relatively new, I think maybe because we are meant to have access to water within so many metres plus it's quicker to go into the bakery then it is to walk out the back.

I am so jealous.
I really want to work in the office, partly for the Office Access to everything, but they're phasing out office hours, so there's no chance, unless someone quits. I’m more than happy to transfer to another store, just to work in there.
Anyone know what I could do to convince the Head Office Cashier or SSM?
Also my manager said he'd give me Service Manager Access because I’ve been doing more Supervision without CSM, 2IC or 3IC on, however, that hasn't happened. He said I have to wait until after Easter because he's too busy, but he had time to make an account for another supervisor.....

Good luck with getting cash office hours, lol. The other SSA and I were talking today about how stupid the SSO/SSM are to not be training me at the moment (considering this girl has openly told both of them she's probably going to leave within the next three/six months), but ultimately thats just money that they have to spend in training me.

I have office cashier access though, its pretty good. I noticed today that within that menu you can allocate yourself different office menus (ie Service Manager, Department Manager etc). I was tempted to change mine, I must admit, but i didn't.
