Prelim. year
English Adv. - 2 units
English Ext. 1 - 2 units
Mathematics - 2 units
Maths Ext. 1 - 1 units
Physics (whatever subject) - 2 units
Chem (whatever subject) - 2 units

HSC year
English Adv - 2units
English Ext. 1 - 1 units
English Ext. 2 - 1 units
Mathematics - 2 units
Maths Ext. 2 - 2 units
Physics (whatever subject) - 2 units
Chem (whatever subject) - 2 units

Do you think they have an advantage because they are just studying 3 areas and it's less stressful?
What's your opinion on people that go for that pattern above?

You need at least 4 subjects to be eligible for the HSC, I thought like Maths + Ext only counted as one?

HSC year
English Adv
English Ext. 1
English Ext. 2
Mathematics Ext 1
Maths Ext. 2
Chem (whatever subject)
once u do english extension 2, u have to do english advanced as well as english extension 1. however, this doesnt apply to maths.

the board of studies requires student to do at least 4 different subjects, therefore ur combo wouldnt work. just for reminder, only the best 2 units of english count for ur ATAR, so in a sense, u only have 8 units to count toward ur ATAR.

I edited it.
Oh because some of people I know take up this combo

So what I basically mean is
Doing all english and math extentsions. And end up taking up only 10 units in year 12
So English, Maths total of 8 units (4 units each?)
Dropping a subject in year 12?

Is that not possible? Because I know someone who had finish their HSC using that pattern. :-S

You need 10 units, but you need 4 subjects along with that.

You can always do Eng Adv, Mx2, Phys & Chem, thats 4 subjects and 10 units.

Problem Solved.

once u do 4U maths, u only need to do maths extension 1 and maths extenion 2, there is no need for 2U maths.

someone may do this combo, because they either accelerated a subject or they did another subject for distanced education, which u dont know about.

the condition of the board of studies:
4 different subject.
at least 10 units.
only best 2 units of english count toward ATAR.

therefore, only two units of ur english (either advanced, ext 1, or ext 2) will count toward ur ATAR. if u want to do both english extension 2 or maths extension 2, u will need at least 12 units to get an ATAR with board of studies's rules.

BOS states that you best two units of English must be included. Not that they only take your best two, and ignore the rest. I had 3 units of English count towards mine.

with Absolutezero's reply, @OP still need to do 12 units to eligible for ATAR.
