Three young people dead after car hits pole

Two young men and a teenage girl are dead after a car driven by a P-plater struck a power pole in Sydney’s west.

A 17-year-old western Sydney man, who was believed to be a passenger, died at the scene, police said.

The 19-year-old male driver, who was from Dean Park and the holder of a P-2 licence, and a 15 year-old girl from Bidwell travelling in the rear of the car have since died.

Police say their black XR6 turbo Ford Falcon left the Great Western Highway at Colyton about 3.15am last night and crashed into a power pole.

A third passenger, a 17-year-old girl, has undergone surgery at Nepean Hospital for serious leg injuries, while a fourth passenger, a 16-year-old Oakhurst girl, is having surgery to repair an injury to her right knee.

All eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for a number of hours to allow police to carry out inquiries at the scene.

St Marys Local Area Commander Superintendent Ray Filewood said police were investigating all factors likely to have played a part in this tragedy.

‘‘Today’s events are a poignant reminder to all drivers to adjust the way they are driving to the prevailing weather conditions,’’ Superintendent Filewood said.

‘‘Personal responsibility is just as important as sticking to the road rules.

’’Crash investigators are appealing for anyone who might have seen the black Ford sedan on the highway prior to the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."
So what absolutely ridiculous regulations will be introduced because another bunch of stupid fucking bogans managed to kill themselves?

They need to do background checks, common sense exams, coordination checks and maybe an IQ test for fun before you're able to drive on the roads.

The only thing better than a dead bogan is a dead muslim.

Don't know of anyone who would disagree with me on that one.

I feel no compassion for these stupid teen drivers speeding and getting themselves killed.

At least they didn't hit a tree like those other bastards.

Plus, again, another benefit, less people means less global warming.

Hahhahahah.

Adjust the way they are driving to prevailing weather conditions?

they werent speeding,
it was raining, they just didnt adjust to the conditions,
most likely hit a puddle of water or a pot hole
and lost control..

no need to assume just coz he was a p plater he was being a reckless driver..
he was appertly a very nice kid so i have been told by some close friends..

but I have a problem with the power poles.. they seem to claim so many lives each year.. we should have all electricity wires underground

The way some of you are carrying on here is fucking disgraceful. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

I happened to know the 19 year old driver Chris. He was one of my brothers best mates and I was pretty good mates with him myself (he came to my 21st, we hang together at the club sometimes etc.). You would never happen to meet a nicer and more polite young man. He was a top bloke and didn't deserve to be have his life cut short so tragically. Same goes for his passengers.

The general consensus is that he wasn't speeding, and trust me he is not a kid that will go around street racing and there is already witnesses saying that he wasn't speeding nor was he drag racing. Unfortunately he had just bought a new car a week ago and wasn't used to the car yet and was driving in terrible conditions. He has hit a massive puddle on the road and aquaplaned straight into a telegraph pole.

The real issue here should be the fact that one of the main roads in Sydney is in such a shocking state that it could get flooded like this to the point where cars are sliding across it travelling the speed limit. No doubt if Chris was more used to his car he probably could have avoided the situation, but thats not the point really. The other issue is WHY THE FUCK do we still have power poles. Wasn't it promised 15 years ago that power lines be buried under the ground? They are ugly and they are a leading cause of road accidents. Not to mention they are only offset like 50cm from the road at this stretch of highway leaving next to no margin for error. They will continue to claim lives until something is done about them.

And to the people calling them bogans and saying they deserved to die for being young hoons just go hang yourself already. Until it happens to you or some of your mates you have no idea how much pain it has caused his family and friends. As i said Chris was the most polite and respectful young man i've ever had the pleasure of hanging out with. May he rest in peace as well as his passengers.

this will lead to either

- banning all high powered cars
- passenger limits for P2 licence

also, you dont have to be speeding to be driving irresponsibly hey so the 'he wasnt speeding' argument adds nothing to the discussion, he obviously fucked up in some large way, and you dont usually fuck up and hit a pole without doing something dumb. Cars dont aquaplane at normal road speed, and considering it was ~that~ wet he should have been driving slower
