ACU or SCU, coffs harbour? (1 Viewer)

hii.. i got a main round offer for a bachelor of business in hotel and resort management at southern cross uni, coffs harbour, and accepted..
and now i have just received a early feb offer for ACU north syd, bachelor of commerce/ bachelor of business information systems
any ideas on which would be better? im also from sydney so it would mean i dont leave home, but i have also been accepted into accomodation in coffs harbour..

Depends entirely on what you wanna pursue! Personally, I would go with the ACU Course.

ACU. There was a similar thread earlier, so I will just cut and paste from that.

In my opinion, go the Business/Commerce degree. Firstly, it opens up a lot of opportunities to work in virtually any business. Secondly, I've worked in the Hotel & Restaurant industry for nearly 10 years. And it's not what it's cut out to be. A lot of people with the same skill set as what you are talking about receiving end up quitting for a better paying, family friendly job. She will more than likely end up in a F&B Manager role or guest services role and after working 80 hours a week for less than 45k a year she might end up hating it. Feel free to PM me with any questions you may have about the industry. I can give you first hand knowledge of what it is like.

It's a dual degree so you get the benefit of covering different and multiple angles. It also has a broader scope, so should she decide that either she doesn't want to join the hospitality industry or wants to leave it later on, she has a degree that opens up multiple opportunities. She could also tack a postgrad degree on the end in Hospitality or Tourism should she so wish which will also open up a huge range of opportunities. Not many postgrad degrees in the Hospitality industry and she will have a distinct advantage over other applicants. Basically, a hotel school is putting all your eggs in one basket.

The hospitality industry is so understaffed at the moment it's not funny. You can rule out guaranteed employment as a pro because going to UWS will also give you a recognised degree which you can take to the industry. Considering it is so understaffed, you are virtually guaranteed to get a job straight away with it. Especially since Business/Commerce provides better qualified staff in general whereas individual units or a specialised hospitality degree is only really good for the hospitality industry. And with the generalised degree in Business/Commerce at UWS, it opens up other opportunities in other industries.

Another thing, Coffs Harbour is dull. I used to live in Port Macquarie, so Coffs was kind of like the next suburb over and it is boring. I even played footy their. Beaches are nice, but you get over that pretty quickly. Shopping is poor and there really isn't much to do on the weekend. It's expensive to fly home and a bit of a trek to drive. Stay in Sydney, get qualified and then think about moving.
