i have an msi wind and i highly recommend itHaha I dragged a 15.6" Toshiba laptop around for about a month before I got fed up and bought my MSI Wind U100
IBM Laptops tend to be reliable, very sturdy too (even though they look bad LOL) Unless it's the Ideapad series that isi just bought a 2nd hand laptop yday.
i would of gotten a new one, but my laptop i was using before is getting repaired.
its an ibm thinkpad
it looks pretty crap which is good cause noone will steal it =D.
its a 14.1", 2.00 duo core, 2gb ram, 100gb 7200 sata.
it had a 9 cell battery, which should last about 4 and something hours, which was the main reason i got it.
also came with a 6 cell which only holds 2 hours charge.
so 6 hours in total isn't that bad =D
as for your question,
i'd get something cheap for uni.
something that wouldn't hurt you that bad if it got stolen.
make sure your laptop isnt your main computer as well,
if it is, then back up your data EVERY NIGHT
not an issue... but nevermind. i've found thise wonderful site and i think i've made my mind. here it is if anyone needs some help deciding:budget?

how long should i wait??? any particular ideas on what i should purchase then (if i want to spend about 400-700)?
i was gunna get a laptop, but after reading some of the posts here, i realised how tiring it could be to drag one around uni.i also dislike netbooks for their lack of windows 7 home premium +
1.7kg is not that heavy. My Sony Vaio weighs 2kg+ but I don't intend to carry it around uni.it depends what laptop, my dell one is 1.7kg
is that heavy?
