"The situation described above is permitted by section 6(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 Victoria, and its state and territory equivalents, which exclude "production" animals (the vast majority of animals in Australia) from the legislation's protection."
Ok, now read the entire section, not just part a.

(1) This Act does not apply to—
(a) the slaughter of animals in accordance with
the
Meat Industry Act 1993or any
Commonwealth Act
1; or
(b) except to the extent that it is necessary to
rely upon a Code of Practice as a defence to
an offence under this Act the keeping,
treatment, handling, transportation, sale,
killing, hunting, shooting, catching, trapping,
netting, marking, care, use, husbandry or
management of any animal or class of
animals (other than a farm animal or class of
farm animals) which is carried out in
accordance with a Code of Practice; or
(c) any act or practice with respect to the
farming, transport, sale or killing of any farm
animal which is carried out in accordance
with a Code of Practice; or
(e) the treatment of any animal for the purpose
of promoting its health or welfare by or in
accordance with the instructions of a
veterinary practitioner; or
(f) the slaughter of a farm animal on a farm if—
(i) it is slaughtered for consumption on

that farm; and

(ii) it is slaughtered in a humane manner;
and
(iii) it is not slaughtered for sale; and
(iv) it is not slaughtered for use in the
preparation of food for sale; and
(v) it is not removed from that farm; or
(g) any fishing activities authorised by and
conducted in accordance with the
Fisheries

Act 1995
2.

I think the important thing to note here is that a boat built for speed was hit by a fucking whaling/cargo vessel.

Man the left wing fringe in this country is pathetic.

If you want to start a conflict with a nation then at least have a better reason like resources for example.

Who the fuck goes to war over fucking whales?

The SS boat has a top speed of 45 knots, compared to the whaling ships speed of 12. And they were trying to get out of the way? If you look at the video from the Japanese ship they are moving *towards* the ship.

And lol at the Japanese continuing to spray them after they got hit. Adding insult to injury much.

Suck shit to the ship that got smashed. Hope those who were on board got killed. Fuck off, the government doesnt own the ocean. who the fuck is the government? strip away all these fucking terms and your left with a few individuals who claim that they have some moral authority over the oceans. LOL at those who support this preposterous logic.

Go Japan. Kill as many whales you wish. I dont give a fuck.

Huh? I don't think so. That was a catcher ship; they have to be capable of chasing down minkes, which can go much more than 12 knots.

Damn you Tim Blair >.<

I'll edit when I get the proper figure. And I was pretty sure it was a security ship, but then again they'd need to stick with the rest of the fleet.

EDIT:

The notion that the 491-ton Shonan Maru 2 – maximum speed 12 knots – could outmanoeuvre a 13-ton, 45-knot trimaran like the Ady Gil is insane, but the media seems to be buying it.

Really, the only countries to formally recognise our claim over antarctica are norway, U.K, France, and NZ. The other countries basically claim it is international waters for economic purposes, therefore the Japanese believe they can whale hunt their. And they'd probably be backed in international Courts.

If the Japanese side was held, they could then claim the protestors' attempts at disabling their fleet using ropes, and bombing the boats with butyric acid, making their decks foul, as well as the boarding of boats last year, are acts of piracy. The international laws governing piracy state a boat that have crew performing acts of piracy can be sunk. Which then means next year Japan could bring guns and shit to blow the fuckers out of the water.

I doubt its top speed is only 12 knots; that's unsafe in seas like the high Anatarctic

And you'd think a small tri-maran like the Addy Gil would be unsafe in the high Antarctic too, but apparently not (debatable, considering what happened lol).

Well no, it's okay to be a small ship, but you have to have a certain speed to outmanoeuver growler icebergs. I wouldn't trust what that site has to say - they've lied about their ships capabilities before.

Also I've heard conflicting reports as to its purpose - in some places it's said it's a security vessels; in others it's a harpoon/catcher vessel, which definitely means it'd need more speed than 12 knots.

Regardless.

Nuke all the whales.

Problem solved.

Japan won't have whales to eat and Australia won't have whales to protest whaling.
