Since everything has a name, why shouldn't our ipods? They are now one of the most essential things a person should have. Mine's called Gigabeat. What's everyone esles?

I tried naming my laptop but it didn't work. I called it lappy for like an hour.
Names exist to be answered to. For ease of communication. Inanimate objects don't answer to the names we give them so it dies down pretty quick.

Then when you were a little kid and played with teddy bears and whatever, did they have names? Cars, motorbikes etc. are sometimes given names.

True, but teddy bears have faces, which makes them seem less inanimate. I called all my teddy bears 'Teddy' anyway. My laptop is faceless, therefore it remains nameless.
