Hey, just wanted to know a bit more about the nightlife/social life at ANU.
Stereotypically Canberra doesn't seem to be party central, but I'm willing to be swayed.
Is it more work orientated or party orientated?
Is there a significant difference between the social life at college at Usyd from what you know of it?
Thanks :)

USyd colleges are more expensive is probably the main difference. So there are fewer rich kids at ANU colleges (though of course there are still plenty).
The social life depends on the college, but on the whole, yes, the social life is pretty awesome at the colleges. Definitely more party oriented (though Ursies is somewhat of a counterexample, and it can get pretty tense at Burgmann whenever a major law assignment due date is coming up).
The other main difference between USyd colleges and ANU ones is that ANU ones (with perhaps the exception of Johns) don't really have any hazing in O-week.

The whole image of Canberra being a social bore isn't particularly accurate. The club scene definitely isn't as large or as good as Sydney's or Melbourne's, but on the other hand they're generally much cheaper and easier to get into. Plus there'll always be socialising going on at your college each night.

This has been answered in the FAQ. You can really only go "out" bar crawling on a thursday, Friday and Sat nights after oweek. If you go out more than that, then you're prolly an alco.

ANU bar has gigs on all the time. Sneaky sound system was there last year, and hilltop hoods this year. Im pretty sure gyroscope and faker have been here too. Very cheap tickets too (i think sneaky sound was $50-60?)

DJs wise, there is Academy nightclub - which gets all theguest DJs.

Theres also a number of live events, trackside. Also there are live events @ old parliment house.

Also, what are the stereotypes of each of the colleges?

And with catered vs self catered.. I'd prefer the catered due to the getting together and social and whatever, like I seem to like Johns.. but I'm also a bit of a health freak and like to know what's in my food and low fat and whatnot.. should I just go self catered?

RE: johns food. there are vegetarian options, however they are limited in their set menus :p There is also a full salad bar if you want to make your own salad or pizza. + toast etc
