I wish it worked like that at our store where someone was actually rostered on for self serve and they stayed there for the whole shift. It all depends on the service and store managers. Eg. I'm expected to serve smokes unless it's really busy. And if expess is busy and my store manager is walking past he would want me in express, even though I don't agree with it.

The actual rules are:
1. Attendant never leaves the area and should not be expected to perform other jobs. It's a security risk.
2. The money sections shouldn't be opened during trade unless a fault occurs. We are supposedly meant to let the store services specialist know before opening it! I doubt anyone does that. And then have the store manager present while fixing it.

When it is quiet at night I think it's fine for the attendant to be filling smokes while no one is actually using self serve.

I'm suprised you got self serve before a refurb. Once you get it the service desk is most likely going to be next to self serve.

Well if you know what the Policy is then in my opinion you need to stand your ground. If anyone forces you to leave the area to do another job, while you are rostered to be on Self Serve you should bring it up with your Area Compliance Manager (Or whatever your equivalent is) or someone higher who your Store Manager is scared of. (Always a good tactic)

Quite a few people at my Store at the moment are doing a Work to Rule campaign due to hours being cut back. That means we start WHEN our contract says we start, we take every break we are entitled to and we leave WHEN our contract says we leave, no matter the circumstances. We only do the job we are contracted to do, nothing else. Like I have stopped answering express alerts now because with hours being cut back there simply ISN'T enough time for me to do that. My cleaning process has also taken a big hit too. So if our Area Manager comes in and asks why the produce case is dirty, I'll simply reply "With hours being cut back I no longer have the time to clean as well, and speaking of hours being cut back I no longer have the time to stand around talking"

Now I don't know if I'll actually have the balls to say that to his face, but we'll see Lol.

omg so many pages since I was on last! lol..

This topic was way back but anyway..
I do close supervision every second weekend and I cash up the draws as soon as I get there. I start at 2.30 on Saturday so there would be three supervisors for an hour..I count and cash them up while the other watches me (we have to have someone present when spot checking) and the third supervisor watches the floor. Its easiest this way cos we have 22 registers!! hahaha.

Farrr out...so many pages to catch up on!

How on earth do you deal with 3am starts? Honestly 7am is a struggle for me.

I'm going to get fuck all hours next week thanks to my SM/SSM.

Anyone else get a letter from SDA today? In WA, both Saturday (the 26th) and Monday (the 28th) will be paid at public holiday rates. Surely I'll at least get a monday, considering that a lot of the permanant staff MAY take it off and we're open 8-9, instead of 10-5.

3 am is great. I have interrupted sleeping patterns anyway so I'm often more awake at 3 am than I am at 7 or 8 :p

Besides I need to leave by midday on Christmas Eve lol.

Fair enough then. I definitely function better for closes than opens. Except last night, but I think I have a reasonable excuse.

I just realised that the shirts I washed this morning are no where near dry...may have to pull my white shirt out for the first time in almost three years.
I don't even know where it is :shy:

interesting day.

Had lunch with SM, SSS and the HRS.

HRS was like: Are you SURE your starting your new job?

and SSS was telling horror stories of the week
-store finalised WBS unbalanced, only to realise there was an EFT value on the store safe report.
-store was doing a bulk gift card purchase for $650, forgot to raise the refund limit, so put it through THREE TIMES, so registers are $1300 short.

Also, think SSS must be a lesbian as she was talking about having a baby and going for ultrasounds, and taking time off when it's born, when she's not pregnant.

When on earth are they going to backpay us Bigw workers. New agreement went through few weeks back (which was 4 months late), they owe us from Aug 1st-mid November's pay increase. Talking a few hundred here....Betcha it will come just after xmas, bastards.

Self Serve Attendants should be issued with mobile phone hooked to the PA system. May have mentioned it earlier however the frontend department goes Service Desk > 10 Big Registers > 2 Express Lanes > 6 Self Serves. For me to do a price check, I must leg it to Register 10, completely deserting my post. I hope that during the 2010 refit, either the service desk moves closer or at least have a microphone installed at the self serve.
Interesting. We have a podium thing in the middle of self-serve with a Computer telling the RAP folks what everyone is purchasing. Plus there is a microphone next to it. Simple solution is to do the same at Woolies. Although I have seen some VERY small Self-serve lanes at some Woolies stores, so mabye not.

Yeah there isn't really enough room at most of the Woolworths self serve lanes. We used to have a PDA for the attendant which would work the same way as the RAP. But not with wowpos sco...

Yay, I got my Total Image shirt order today.
I thought it'd take longer, but it only took 2 weeks.
I ordered a size smaller than my spotless size and it still looks a bit big, but I'll have to see how it is when I try it on.
