Anyway, I think there should be a higher emphasis on creative writing or writing in form in HSC English instead of analysing texts...

Its hard to explain, but HSC style essays just don't cut it at uni, they are not sophisticated enough, you don't get as many ideas through. You'll get a pass sure, but anything higher requires a lot more work.

EDIT: This is for history though, and history markers are fucking nazi's</SPAN>
I'm doing Creative Arts as a part of my double, and its exactly the same there too. My last essay (2000w) had 35 reference sources in it.

I would say for starters, English is compulsory in order to teach basic things like spelling and grammar. ;)

maybe its compulstory because people like you cant spell ;)
