This is a semicircle. Picture a horizontal diameter, the curve describes the top half.

Geometric interpretation means to explain what each term contributes to the eqn. Eg, in the question, a is the radius of the semicircle. Rearrange the eqn, and you'll discover that the centre is @ (0,0)
