I really liked the paper, the maths involved wasn't too difficult however it was a difficult paper because it was very left field and required us to interpret the questions and figure out exactly what they want us to do. I found that nearly all the questions at first left me thinking WTF?!?!? but after I had a think and tried a few things they all seemed to work out nicely and made you really think. You really had to know the concept not just the application which sets the rote learners apart from the people who just "get" it :) 108+

there were questions that were tricky... but overall i liked the exam

did anyone get 5/12 - 2ln2 for the last part of Q10
Oh that must have been what i did wrong - i got 2ln2-5/12 and it was a negative but i didn't have time to work out what'd happened

Re: Man that was a hard paper!

I'm really angry right now, Did the last 10 past papers and the format of the 09 exam changed! The questions were all over the place in terms of difficulty and some were worded strangely, I hated it, I just hope I can scrap in a band 5, what you guys think the raw mark for this exam will be?
yeah the changed structure f***ed me over. i didn't do the last bits of Qn10 cause i'd thought i'd get more marks making sure the easier ones where right. After the exam i look at the qns and go DAMN IT! they were soooo easy! i missed 9 marks i could have gotten easily!
BOS:chainsaw: should follow the convention of the questions getting harder as they go not have all the hard ones in middle! what's with the ln question in Q10? it more like a Q1 question so easy! Somehow the education department is determined to screw this year over something fierce!:chainsaw:
After the Exam i was depressed....now i'm ANGRY and depressed......

to find the perimeter of the minor segment, i applied pythagoras theorem to find the chord length. never have i done something so stupid. it seems i saved the silliest mistakes for last. gg

Was that the Van and Marie one? It was like 1-[(8/9)^3 x (15/16)^3] or something like that, I can't even remember...

6 subintervals = 7 function values

And as for the radium one, it was about the ratio (ie after 1600 it was half: Ae^(-k x 0) = 2Ae^(-k x 1600), and the A's cancelled out then you just had to use normal log laws and such to figure out k.
DAMMIT ! i swear i did that for the radium qs.. but after i had A/2A i thought u cant cancel the A's out and so i was left with 1/A. Then i didnt know how to get rid of the A. crap im so pisssed ! :chainsaw:

That past papers did nothing to prepare me for this shit. I cant believe I spent most of the holidays studying for maths and it turned out to be a waste. same for religion..i wrote heaps of notes n i didnt get to perform my best cos of the retarted extended responses. arrrgggggg ! I feel depressed and emo now :(

Overall the paper was a little tough - perhaps the hardest there has been in a few years. But the questions were not impossible.
What pissed me of was that there was no easy questions you could easily bag some marks - like a whole question devoted to corordinate geometry, or some easy barings questions using sine rule/cos rule. I think the band cut offs will drop a little bit, band 6 will probably be around 98+ and band 5 probably 77+.

Btw, who the fuck forgets where they park there car 5days in a row?

If that equals 125/216 I will be incredibly happy - there's a bonus 2 marks I didnt think I'd get!
..87/120 ftw :D

yeah i'd agree. from what i can tell from past papers i'd say definately the hardest in last 5 years perhaps? and compared to the 90's past papers, so so much harder.

i go to a selective school and the reaction was universal of surprise at how hard it was. even the usual 100%-ers said they were thrown off guard.

Last year the band 6 cut off was 95/120 and that was a much easier test

wow really? thats a lot less than i would have thought. we had a bos marker come in and she said she didn't know any of the cutoffs so she didn't say them (she could have lied. which would be annoying)

weren't they trying to trick you with the wording? wasn't it l=rtheta? and that would be the perimeter of AB?
