Most of the time the sub genres do have a distinct difference. Usually however this leads to elitists saying that one is indefinitely better than the other and that everyone else's opinion is wrong.

there are heaps of different genres in metal. Just death metal itself has heaps of subgenres, eg blackened, brutal, melodic (probably my favourite), symphonic, industrial, gothic, etc.
yea. each to their own, my personal favourite would definitely have to be melodic death metal (and.. anything that comes out of europe, lol).
I personally cant stand american death metal bands who growl on about gore and zombies and mutilation and who's music only consists of noisy riffing. Only american dm bands i like are Nile and Beyond the Sixth Seal.

Technical, Melodic, and and Progressive are my favourtie types of dm. Currently, in the process of trying to find some good grindcore (and its subgenre's like pornogrind, zombiegrind, electrogrind, goregrind etc.).

Stuff rap!!! But dude, rock is the bomb... Depending what you actually call "rock". Some say that "My chemical Romance" is rock, oh bullshit.. Rock is "Guns and Roses", "Nickelback" and bands like ACDC.. Metal is the best, but i prefer NU-METAL... Bands like; Ill Nino, Slipknot, Stone sour, Mudvayne etc.. They all rule.. And BTW rock is not "shit", rock helped with the creation of "metal"...And out of interest, who likes rapcore??? ITS THA BOMB LOL

out of curiousity, who do you guys think is the best metal drummer? (please, no one mention joey jordison or i will have to slam my head against a wall). Nile and Behemoths drummers (George Kollias and Inferno, respectively) have been my favourite due to their speed and technicality. I noticed that inferno has gotten much better in the release of Behemoth's latest album, Evangelion (came out about a month ago), but then last night i had a listen to Nile's new album, Those Whom the Gods Detest (supposed to come out 3rd nov, but it leaked online), and it reminded me just how fast Kollias is. I mean, he's insane in their other 2 albums he played in (Annihilation of the Wicked and Ithyphallic), but this one, he plays even faster, and im like 'holy crap, head esplode', playing at inhuman speeds! So what does everyone else think?

i used to listen to slipknot too, rammstein, slipknot and unearth got me into metal. Then a friend told me about Nile, some egyptian themed death metal band, i checked em out, i loved em =]I used to love Slipknot.. okay i have an excuse, i was in yr 6! Leave me alone

I reckon the best metal drummer is Joey from Slipknot... He has great skills in all areas, and is by far one of the best kickdrummers...

You all base your opinions on who the best metal drummer is by how fucking fast he can blast or double kick or whether he can do gravity blasts whilst doing quintuplets on one foot and septuplets on the other all while he's smoking a cigarette and having sex with 5 women. There's more to drumming, especially in metal music, than how fast you can roll, blast or kick.
