Ok so im planning to buy from a private seller from rose bay, an alfa romeo 147 , 2005 model for 17k, ive kept tabs and the next cheapest alfa 147 is around 5k more expensive. Reason for sale, car lease is ending. After flicking through the carsales buying guide. # don't rush to buy if the advertisement seems too good to be true# be suspicious if a vehicle is advertised at a very low priceshould i be suspicious?

There are a few services which will go and inspect the car for you to give you a more thorough idea of the condition of the car. Be weary if the seller doesn't want to allow you to do this!

Be warned though, my mate got this done for a used MRT STi he purchased about a month ago but they didn't pick up on the turbo about to blow... so that cost another $4.5k to replace. Fortunately MRT were able to replace and retune.

And obviously buying a 2nd hand Alfa is asking for a lot of issues so make sure you get it checked out by a decent inspector.

Its an alfa, I'd get more than a quick check over tbh
People with limited budgets really should stick to the Corollas and the like... there's a reason why they have such high resale values. Don't want to sound like a snob but truth be told, purchase price is just a small blip on the radar in long-term car ownership. For used cars, repairs and maintenance can quickly reach and go beyond the purchase price!
