It depends on your writing size and how you are writing. Are most people here using normal lined booklets? Anyone using proper Board of Studies writing booklets (which make it easier to write heaps)?

One example for me from this year, was the Module A English Assessment. I have medium sized hand writing, and in the test I wrote about 920 words in 40 mins, using 5 and a quarter pages.

I've improved my speed slightly since then, and can write more but that is a rough conversion of how many words I fit into 5.25 pages. Anyone want to go?

EDIT: Also, to highlight the difference between normal lined booklets and HSC booklets: I wrote 14 pages in a 50 minute test recently, which was a little bit over 1100 words, using HSC booklets. Though I finished that test a little early as well.

yeah just to make it clear, 11 pages was in the hsc booklets not normal lined paper so i didnt really write ALOT. its only 1200 words not something crazy like 1500 words in 50 mins =) but then again i have seen people who wrote like 15 pages in this sor assesment in an hour =/ which i find amazing!

Well for trials, I managed 1303 carefully placed words in 50 minutes, very relaxedly. :p That was uhmm, nearly 6 pages of my writing.

If your writing utter bullshit it doesn't matter how many pages you churn out.
@OP if your slow at writing just focus on conveying your main points clearly and succinctly?
quality over quantity.

While I agree that its quality over quantity, you should really be hitting the 6 page mark from what I gather. That is, you should get at least 1000 words down, usually 1100-1200 words in actual fact.

30 wpms give or take 3 words sometimes. The hsc booklets are like half as long in terms of words compared to sheets of paper we use. I wrote consistently 4.5pages to 5ish pages in my english trial for the 4 essays in 40 mins and i write about 220-270 words a page so id be pushing 1200-1350 which im pretty happy with. I always make a 1 min plan with all techniques out either on a seperate sheet or in the margin.

I would say 1100 in 40 mins and 1200 in 50 mins.

Of quality writing, of course. :p

But for trials recently, I managed 1300 in 45 mins?

Yeah, that does sound about right. For Trials, I probably averaged about 1100-1150 per 40 min essay. For 50 min exam last term, I got 1350-1400, but I finished in 45~ mins.

I write roughly 1000 words in 40 minutes. That said, 1000 words is easily 6 pages of my writing. I average 4-5 words a line.

Wow. I have never hit the 1400 mark from what I know. Lol, today, I took my main trial essay home and it was 1303 exactly. :D

As in, you don't write fast enough, or I don't write fast enough?

me lol, i'd like to write faster... approx 1400-1500 words in 40 minutes
Eh, to be honest, 1100-1200 is very good, if the calibre of your writing is up there. It's not how much you write, and I can't emphasise this enough lol.

yea calibre of writing is very important, for my belonging essay however i had to cut it short because i spent more time than i wanted to... my related texts got done over, still got an alright result for it tho...
thats why i want to write faster =)

noooo, totally.. im being like SERIOUS! but im a machine. yeah. and i didnt even STUDY for that exam LOL. but im really good at making up rubbish, got 12.89/15.. dont ask about the .89.. it's weird.
i had to comment on this thread just to lol @ the 12.89.

but in relation to the thread topic, today i wrote about 1000 words in 45 minutes. but that's because i had the essay already memorised, in an unsighted question i probably wouldn't write as much. :)
