I was just testing myself to see how fast I could write and it turns out that I peak at only 27 WPM - people have always noticed I write considerably slow but it's not until now that I've begun to worry about it becoming a severe handicap for the HSC.

Regardless, how fast do you write?

Depends when and where... usually around exam time I pump out 4 full pages of writing in 40 minutes. I am really not sure about word count, sorry.

noooo, totally.. im being like SERIOUS! but im a machine. yeah. and i didnt even STUDY for that exam LOL. but im really good at making up rubbish, got 12.89/15.. dont ask about the .89.. it's weird.

Ok if you estimate 250 words per page in giant writing, that is 3000+ words.

Also why would a teacher give you 12.89/15 for one assessment? I can see if it was an year average mark or something...

Last exam I wrote 3 pages in 40 minutes but I have tiny writing and I got stuck a bit, I could have written more had I known my work better. I think HSC should aim for 8 pages in 40 mins. About 2000 words? Does that sound right? And even that's pushing it.

You can apply for extra writing time if you think you seriously have a problem. I know a couple of people who do. You have to get assessed I think by a writing specialist so they know you actually do have a problem.

If you're writing at 27 wpm in a 40 min exam that = 1080 words. Which is a guess a problem if that is physically your maximum.

At a study seminar last yr they told us to tape batteries on the end of our pens when we use them in class because it strengthens the muscles in your wrist, then when it comes to exam time you write a million times faster, haha.

Yeah i dunno, ask someone at school about it.

Average level of writing per 40 mins in Yr 12 is about 1050 words-1100. If you're writing more than 1200, that's awesome. If you're writing more than 1300 - you're freaky.

Where'd you get these figures? I'm starting to freak out, I can only write about 1000 words in an hour including thinking time!

You need to be able to think in 2 minutes. Have 2 minutes to have a quick plan... then the rest of the thinking is made during the introductions for essays (as most writing is in essay form or similar).

Writing + Thinking = Efficient.

In my last Modern History test which was an hour long (pre trials), I only managed to write around 900 words in the hour. That said, I was late to the test and I finished early

Hehe, studied for modern did you?

I can write around 1200 words in 40 mins, so 30 WPM. Therefore OP, you don't write slow XD

in my last english exam i got 3 pages in 45 mins, and i had written all i knew :S
and my geo exam was 3.5 pages in 1hr, but i was sick and couldnt concentrate very well :S

Average of our class. We've got this freak who will probably get state rankings in all four units of English who writes like 1400 in 40 mins. The rest of us can manage about 950-1050.

i dont know how fast i write in wpm but i managed 7 pages for my recent assessment in 60mins..my writing is quite small so I'm guessing about 1700-1800 words

but i went ib with a memorised essay and that so yeah

OH MA GOD! youre like.. so like.. totally AWESOME! nice job. but doesn't beat my 13 pages in standard i reckon thats like pretty unbeatable.. given i fit heaps of words onto each line..

13 pages in how long?
i did 29 pages in 2hrs but this is the hsc booklets.
