I think I failed so bad,
I studied alot, but it just wasn't enough.
There were questions in there that i'd never seen, and never could have predicted..
Anyone else have this problem?
Any tips anyone can give me on studying for Maths..?
Cheers guys.

Mate, I agree.

Did my 2 unit maths paper today, and I thought I'd be right after a billion timed maths trials and working through the answers carefully.

It was ok until about question 8, then BAM.

Impossible calculus question I've never seen before. Weirdo Geometry I've never seen before.

Would have been nice if they'd asked SOME of the ones I'd seen before.

But no.

At least everyone else claimed it was hard too. Maybe I won't bottom the subject.

Maybe.

Ummm. I believe the key to maths is process and identifying.

If you can identify which process to use in a question, then everything should be fine.

Therefore, practise learning how to indentify particular questions.

For eg, this is how I study

- How to recognize these types of questions-

1) If it asks for -......-
2) If a -......- is shown
3) A set of -......- is shown.

Anything like that should be fine.

Oh and LOTS AND LOTS OF PRACTISE EXAMS! Get your hands on as many as you can get.

Comming from a guy who got 100% in his last 2 unit test >.<

No point in him taking my advice if I'm doing general.

My trial was pretty alright, and surprisingly I didn't have any problems except for two trig identity ones. The very last question was also a very simple motion question so I was pretty much giddy by the end of the exam.

That's how it's supposed to be in the actual HSC lol. I guess your school really nailed it there. Don't worry though, because chances are everyone else thought it was hard too.

You make it sound like struggling with 2unit math is shameful =O

*chucks a shoe at you* We can't all be math geniuses. I'm happy with my mid eighties marks. Besides, I make up for it in my other subjects.
swastika is at an angle, btw.

Took me a while to realise what you were on about lol. Yeah that was a joke, but I think I might've offended him so I apologised. Honestly though, why would you put about 10 of those in your signature?

Going back to maths, did you get tutored or are you naturally good at it?

got tutored in 4unit cause i got sucked into the whole OMG ITS SO HARD etc. etc. but then stopped going half way (after 8 weeks or so) cause i found it pretty much useless.

math is actually quite simple...it's pure logic

I hope you're not calling me retarded. I'd like to throw something at you for real. Thanks to netball, I have pretty good aim. =]

Yeah, I guess it is, but where's the fun in maths? I'm more of a creative arts and literature person, but I'm not bad at maths. I just don't like it I guess.

hardly a sport.

The fun in math is problem solving, realising little subtle hints and tricks that you can use to solve a problem. Thinking outside the box.

Too bad HSC doesn't cater to this other than 4unit.

You did not just diss netball!! =O

Hardly a sport?! It's like basketball, except you don't have to worry about being shoved to the ground or whatever, which is why I switched from basketball to netball when I realised I wasn't getting any taller. Besides, netball requires more agility than basketball. It helps with my dancing too because I'm light on my feet.

I will admit that I get wildly excited sometimes when I solve a particularly nasty math problem. I'd still rather write three essays than sit a 3 hour math exam though. =]

Maths is a wonderful thing !

Truely the foundation of many many many things in life.

and no, people who struggle at maths view things in a different way to people who are good at maths.

Maths is about process, dicipline and desire.

Yo, tommykins, what was your UAI?
Anything short of 100 would make your arrogance unwarranted.

you're an idiot if you think UAI is a measure of anything.

95.65, which my aim from the beginning was 95+.
