Yet McDonalds seem to make this system work...
yeah, but McDonalds can offload a lot of the cost to the Franchisee, and the rosters are generally easier to do with less staff, and afaik the maccas system doesnt allow for dynamic rostering.

i think we will eventually get the functionality of online rosters and holiday applications, but it's going to take a while to test the systems to make sure they work 100%, people planner may be out of date and cumbersome, but i've never known it go wrong in any major may. same with PAYMAS

HAHAHA, i know about Norwest, my SSM was joking about it to everybody when she went there to give an award on safety (our store has 2138 days LTI free and counting, and they had like 3).

Also, for those in Area 85, does anybody else find it absolutely stupid that internall they're calling the new store out near head office Norbrik, but advertising it to customers as Norwest. so now they're bitching to us that we keep giving them the wrong number for the store (because we're giving them the Norwest supermarket number not Norbrik)
As of today, the norwest stores have been officially renamed.

1. "Support Office - Norwest" (staff store)
2. "Norwest CircaRetail Supermarket" (the old Norbrik site)

This was sent via email to support staff at Norwest and I assume supermarkets to remove the confusion. Crazy idea to not make it clear in the first place

Maybe I'm old.. but how hard is it to just lodge a paper leave form and check your roster in store? What is the real need to have it available online... maybe convenient for some but I think it's a bit cost prohibitive when the current way we do things works just fine...

When I was at BWS my manager used to email the roster to everyone. Wouldn't be difficult for a woolies manager to email rosters to everyone in the department and wouldn't cost anything AFAIK.

Problem here is that there's just too many staff members to provide individual rosters.
I think pokerchoker means the WHOLE roster (meaning everyones hours in one email) emailed to anyone who wants it sent to them.
In Big W everyones hours are posted up for anyone to see anyway so It's not really an issue with others seeing the hours you do etc.

If a proper system was in place (such as a CRM system), it would take absolutely no time at all to do a lot of things. Such as online rosters or checking your details over the net. An example - a couple of IGA's I have visited (one at Port Macquarie, of all places) have electronic price tags. This is a great idea as it saves ticketing (paper and labour x 100s of stores) and changes can be made to many stores from one server similarly. A lot of menial tasks could be eliminated with a decent CRM system.

Yeah after I posted that I realised what he actually meant.

It still won't be possible while People Planner is in its current form.

Wasn't 'WorkBrain' suppost to offer online rosters, or was that the 'epic failure' townie was talking about???

i've always wondered about electronic price tags, how do they look?

edit: also, Project Galaxy should implement a lot of these new fangeled technologies

edit2: not that i'll be arround to see them, I'M LEAVING WOOLWORTHS THIS YEAR! (well at least leaving it aside from 1 CashOffice Shift on sunday mornings - if they want me)

The electronic tags look cool. They are slightly bigger than our tags, and display the name, price and saving if applicable. No unit pricing as of yet.

Congrats on the graduate job. I assume it will be nice to escape. My Woolworths graduate aspirations ended early on (second round - phone interview) I was really pissed off that with nearly 5 years experience in supermarkets and a uni avergae between C and D I didn't even get a behavioural interview in an INTERNAL process. So I applied for the external Coles grad program in an act of revenge and actually got accepted (pretty much the exact same position). Its funny now, Woolworths HR rang me after I got the job and are desperate to offer me anything. I told them if they want me, I want more money. They haven't got back to me yet. Have to sign contracts with Coles by the end of the week so I doubt they are getting back to me either.

yeah, will be interesting to see if Woolworths dangles a present before my eyes on my resignation. thought i wouldnt take anything less than SSM training and salaried position, which i doubt, but u never know, current SSM is hinting she will be leaving.

I think Coles is FINALLY starting to step up in trying to compete with woolies, will be interesting to see what happens, because IMHO, in the past 18months Woolies has streaked ahead of them.

I think Coles has potential. I like their new promotions. But they don't seem to be doing much refurb and as a result their stores look tired. On the other side, I really don't know where Woolworths go from here. But when Costco arrive here, I reckon both Coles and Woolworths are in for a rude shock. A lot of people will shop there imo. And why not - it will be like a Aldi with brand names in an IKEA sized supermarket. And that is just the grocery side, Costco offers the equivalent of a Big W/Target too. I don't think either side has given it much thought.
