The topic title is misleading ^^^ not really "intelligence" as in IQ but as in what you're studying.

ok so this sort of question doesn't really come up often but...

Let's just say there's a girl doing Medicine at (let's be stereotypical) UNSW. And there's a boy in UNSW but he does Commerce. Both are equally intelligent but obviously Medicine is harder to get into and later on becomes a highly respected job.

Can the two become BF/GF? Obviously the Medicine girl was probably more highly achieving. Does this mean people doing medicine will only date other people doing medicine? This is the logic that one of my friends told me. He is doing commerce and said he'll never ever date a girl doing medicine/dentistry/any other "higher order" programs because that means she probably only goes for the super smart people.

Is it true?

You're kidding right? She got a higher UAI. Which means she was probably better at memorising and maybe had slightly more willpower or self discipline.

People like who they like. It doesn't matter what freaking degree you're doing. If they're a moronic airhead who can't string two words together then yeah, you might have difficulty relating if you're at all intelligent but in this scenario, it doesn't really matter at all.

No. I just found it funny that my friend said such a thing. Was just asking to see if there are really people who think the same way these days.

Do you have to be so cynical about a throw-away comment like that? He was just trying to pick a stereotypical elitist subject to emphasise his point, just let him be

Look. This is a pretty silly question.

I'm going to emphasise what I already said: people like who they like. What degree you're doing has pretty much 0 to do with it. Some people are naive enough to think like this. The majority aren't.

haha mate. Too bad I'm not the guy trying to pursue this girl. Whatever helps you sleep better at night though...
Oh, sorry. My bad. Yeah. Apologetic.
Would've thought that someone who'd be dumb enough to make a thread like this would be dumb enough to think idiotic thoughts like those outlined in real life, as well.

It's a legitimate concern for some people, especially guys, if their partner is smarter than them - it may sound odd but it's true. It can be intimidating and/or seem overshadowing if your girlfriend is more intelligent you. He just picked the "degree" example for argument's sake.
