Hey,

Unfouratnetly, we got given our drama gp groups a couple of weeks back (really didnt have a say in them). In a group of 4, there was myself and two others who i wanted to be with- solid and experiecned actors- but aslo a 4th person.

She is, if you will (in the nicest terms possible) a dead weight, she is only doing drama for the units but doesnt care about her uai. She will turn up to rehersals if we make her but is bland and cannot really act (she admits it herself).

I am confident in my ability to put together a great gp with the other two, but I'm wonderign if anyone has any stories or idea how this 4th person will affect us? I know its marked individually, but will there shity acting hinder us? Please reasure me

We had the same problem, but we still managed to do really well. What we did was create a character similar to her personality so it didn't require her to be anything THAT different. So for example, she was always a such a nervous person and picky so we just put that in the extreme, added a few quirky characteristics like a stutter & ocd etc and wolah! a character suited to her.
And because she wasn't that great and maintaining her character (eg, through stance and mannerisms, reactions etc) we made sure it was strongly communicated through her lines.

Also because our girl lacked on the creative side of things when it came to the group peice we gave her the jobs that required research rather than say scripting or whatever.

Maybe you should also tell her that you and the others have high expectations which might also hint to her she needs to get herself into gear. At least she bothers to turn up to rehearsals, our group was the WORST when it came to that sorta stuff.

This is one of the worst aspects of drama, in my opinion. I love the subject but when it comes to groups, it becomes a real gamble. And really, in the end, regardless of the commitment u have as an individual, the group can be let down by one person.

Its bad when u have a dead weight in ur group but whats worse is when they bludge and bludge and dont contribute to anything that requires effort on their part but somehow.. on the day... outshine everyone. It sux when your teacher starts raving about this particular person- WHO DID NOTHING!

Obviously I'v had bad group experiences.. lol

Good luck all

ahh, you see i had this planned out waaay prior to the choosing of GP groups. Me and the two other guys who wanted to be in the same group made sure we did really well in every assessment task, homework, IP, so we were ahead of everyone else.

then our teacher put us in the group together, because we were 'more advanced in our IP' and were all working the best in the whole class.

hooray for preparation!

Although sometimes teachers will decide that if there are two stand-out students, they'll put them in different groups to even class up, so their isn't one 'good' group and one 'bad'.

We're getting our groups within the next couple of days. I'm really nervous. There are a couple of people I really don't want to work with.

Technically, your not supposed to get them til know. But there's a hell of a lot of schools cheating the system in this regard.
