hi just wondering if you can get this (im eligible for independent ya already) as on the site it says you can only get rent assitance if it's for 'private' residence

also

single with no dependent children = $111.20 max/fortnight

and

single, sharer, no dependent children = $74.13 max/fortnight

if youre living in on campus accommodation with other people (Seems to be 2-4 people per apartment), you would be classified as a sharer wouldnt you?

please help thanks

Why the fuck not? You're just stupid if you don't take opportunities that jump you in the face.

As for eligibility, the only way you can find out is by calling Centrelink and making the claim yourself. If you don't pay rent to the department of human services, you have a pretty high success rate.

They will assess your case on an individual basis - be honest or you will get found out and screwed in the long run

It's called being lazy, I don't know. It's funny when it's the people that receive the most benefits that always bitch about the tax rates and government funding.

i am working full time, and have been for the last 4 years since finishing my hsc with a uai in the 90s to support myself and my family through some tough financial times that have prevented me from being able to afford financially or timewise to go to uni. i have been eligible for a long time to claim government money, but have not once claimed a cent.

i intend on going to uni next year to further my study, and fully intend on taking advantage of the youth allowance and rent assistant schemes that are available, given i have been out there paying tax anyway, and was asking the question because i want to be able to go to uni, live on campus and enjoy the lifestyle without having to worry about finances too much, whilst still working at the same time - although not as much, so that i dont earn over the threshold and can concentrate on uni/a bit more of a social life.

lesson in life that you're obviously yet to learn - think before you speak and jump to a conclusion like that next time

I applied for the rent assistance because im paying board.

6.50 later...

If you pay rent, they will have to offer assistance or give a good reason why they wont give it to you based on your circumstances.

yes- you need to be on austudy/youth allowance or some other benefit and be living permanently apart from your parents/guardians before you can get rent assistance.
