Hey,

I'm going for my p's in a week and i was just wondering when turning if you are allowed to turn hand over hand.

Some people have told me you arent allowed to.

the RTA require you to know both methods for turning your car, however the hand over hand one is least preferred for general steering as its not as safe and you dont maintain as much control over the car

you only use hand over hand when going at slow speeds, such as parking, where you need quick, tight turns

no seriously, like madsam said, RTA likes both, i did the push pull in my p's test but, almost lost a mark for palm steer changing gears thru a turn

but the marker wasnt paying attention

Use push-pull style for a car with no power steering (very safe).
Otherwise, you can just steer with the right hand on the wheel. I don't get the people that cross their hands, it looks ridiculous.

unless there has been an accumulation of errors, they won't fail you for it. they'll just warn you about it after.

Considering they are going for their P's not having both hands on the wheel at all times possible wouldn't be the best way to pass.

Use push-pull method.

Good luck with your P's test, since you should of been by now - how'd you go?

Push Pull method is best, but I palm steer when turning.

Bad habits already.

No; use the push/pull method. Also when turning, don't let your right hand pass the 10/11 o'clock position and don't let your left hand pass the 1/2 o'clock position.
