Does anyone know much about Woolworths hiring people in the field of IT?
they're forever advertising internally for IT people, not sure about external adveritising.

However, considering we have two dedicated 24/7 IT support lines, and just the sheer volume of electrical equipment in a store (take us for example a very small store, we have 10 registers, 6 PC's, 6 RF units, 1 dedicated fridge alarm PC, 1 Server, the alarm system etc.) I imagine they would always be on the lookout for people

Ahh ok, haven't really heard anything.

Maybe I should update my education information (About 5 weeks since notices went up)

Isn't the central office in NSW anyway?

jah, it is

however, National Payroll is in Acacia Ridge, and they probably need IT people for sure, they control Payroll for ALL of woolworths.

Regions have bare minimum IT Staff. WA has IT Manager, Team Leader, and about 4 techs. The rest is done by contractors. Basically the regional guys only look after DC and Regional Office, with a bit of store stuff (especially with front end changeovers for 2010).

Keep an eye out on the taleo careers site, as that's where positions are advertised. Get as much experience as you can in-store with the IT systems (RF guns, SCO's, WoWPOS registers, Office and Back Office especially). Don't worry about alarm panels and fridge PC's as they are maintained by contractors.

There's also the graduate program if you're in your final year of tertiary study, or hold a bachelors degree already.

Also worth speaking to your store manager and HR Specialist. If you attend the careers night, try and get a second with the regional HR manager and have a chat to them about it.

I'm curious as to what they will ask me in this grad interview tomorrow. I tossed up for studying for it, for want of a better term, but I figure I know enough about the company after being there five years.

They shouldn't of called you within school hours if they knew you were a school student. They will not contact you until after the application cutoff.
When I was employed they contacted me during school hours (omgad, something like 10 missed calls between 11 am and 3 pm) but eventually got onto me after school.
They were insanely desperate for staff though, having sacked almost all deli staff.

The group intervies, i did 2years ago, it may not have changed but it was at bonnyrig and you just come in2 a room with 2 staff members and they give u booklets 2 fill out. hint:dress formalish and be nice/social. In the group interview u do activities with the person next to you, i had to speak 2 the lady next 2 me, we spoke about footy, food, school etc, then you present back 2 the group what you know about the person. The last thing you do is a test, isnt hard its just matching products with each other on the list within their weights/names.
:]
then if u get in its the 1 on 1 interviewww. p.s shake interviewers hand, they like that haha

Interview didn't go too bad today. Found out the salary was around $50k + super. So around industry grad average I guess. Hopeful of progressing to the next stage.

thats shocking, you would be making more than that if you worked full time instead of studying, and were now a dept manager.

i think you missed the point. it seems ridiculous to me that woolworths pays their department managers the same as someone who has worked their way through uni, gained their degree, and still chosen to stay with the company.

Well obviously the starting wage for uni graduates is going to be low, they're not going to award 70k for a fresh out of uni graduate with no experience what so ever.

You have to progress through the ranks of the company
