variety in that i like them and you don't, as in different styles/sounds, they have a different sound to other bands that you may like. You may notice that they play more than one type of music on the radio, that is variety. look it up.

havent heard their songs so i can't comment but im sure there are other indie bands who sound like them...

oh and nobody i know sounds like TGP, only the screaming is generic

Where The City Meets The Sea is extremely catchy. I'll admit it's a bit of a guilty pleasure. Other than than, Streetlight is quite good, as is Falling To Pieces.
