From experience in tutorials and lectures (at Melbourne Uni anyway) they are very much on the left side of the spectrum, with quite a few being far left. The occassional conservative gets shouted down in tutorials and everyone knows who the conservatives are doing their subject.

Having said that, I wouldn't say they support labour/liberal to any degree - many of the left-leaning students I know don't like Kevin Rudd/many labour policies and are more Green supporting. Likewise I have met many young conservatives who want the conservative Liberal party to be revamped - they didn't find John Howard a particularly inspiring leader for their political beliefs and feel that the party needs some more of the high up young liberals to get into the higher ranks to bring the life back.

So many uni students I find are generally dissilusioned with the current leadership of both major parties, regardless of their political orientation.

Arts: Left. The Resistance and Socialist Alliance are huge groups on my campus.

Law: Lecturers are left, with the students its hard to tell. My friends and I at least don't care.

I would say about 60 - 40 (Labour to Liberal) in general Arts population in my experience at ANU. Saying that Canberra is a lefty town. I was under the impression (no idea why) that young people, especially uni students, had a tendency to lean to the left, where as the middle aged or elderly tended to lean to the right.

I would align myself with the Left, although I don't really support Labour or Liberal. I find that I tend to have ideals from both sides of the political spectrum, although I come across more as a typical lefty.

You constitute around 80-90% of every bs movement on campus. Not a day goes by where I don't hear arts students in the fucking courtyard banging on tamborines about something.

(by 'not a day goes by' I mean I only heard this once).
