Artificial Intelligence hands down.
I was bawling my eyes out and it was only halfway through. I love Speilberg.

I don't like Forest Gump. It won best film over BOTH "Pulp Fiction" AND "Shawshank Redemption", which are high up in my list of favorite films. Plus, apart from a couple of nice moments, it wasn't all that great. Good, but not of the "epic" category.

I understand epic as being a grand sweeping event. Which almost no film here is.

The answer, for the record, is any David Lean film from The Bridge on the River Kwai onwards (yeah, even Ryan's Daughter - someone's gotta like it, may as well be me).

LOTR and starwars definitely. i'd be tempted to say Australia as well. but lower on the list.
I wouldn't be tempted to place "Australia" on the list.
Pretty unimpressive as films go, in my opinion. Not bad, but not epic.

gladiator was a godawful film. plus there seems to be 2 running definitions of epic here. if we are going for epic as in all out stoic story telling films its hard to look past a lot of akira kurosawa, star wars and LOTR. otherwise we have already had like a billion favourite movie threads

I think Russell Crowe is a great actor.
With such 'epic' movies as:
Gladiator
A Beautiful Mind
Master and Commander
Proof of Life
Cinderella Man
A Good Year
