For say a third person narrative about a fish.

Do you think dialogue would be essential, even if there's no humans present in the story line?

umm, for aos it should be emotional , idk how you would get that from a fish XD.
Well my teacher said " talk is cheap" so i think she didnt want dialoge.

No, it's not essential, but I would avoid writing a story about a fish. Marker's have repeatedly stated that as a general rule, stories about animals or objects do not do as well as those about people.
