They are almost complete opposites.

Keating:
1. Dry sense of humor.
2. Doesn't give a fuck what the average person thinks of him.
3. Secularist.
4. Implemented free market reforms and deregulation.
5. Made the unpopular admission of a "recession we had to have."

Rudd :
1. No sense of humor.
2. Adjusts every policy, mannerism and nuance to pander to the average moronic Australian voter.
3. Conservative religious fucktard.
4. Openly hostile towards free markets and wants to increase regulation and expand the size of government.
5. Claims Australia has avoided a recession all together (despite admitting unemployment is rising) by borrowing money and handing out free cash to everyone.

1. Rudd is as much a smart arse in parliament as Keating is, Keating was just ruder.
2. Keating cared very much what people thought of him. He liked to be seen as the cocky, arrogant slicker but was very much vote driven. For nearly a decade he taunted the liberals for being too wimpy to put in place real free market reforms like he did then John Hewson actually put up some free market policy and overnight Keating became a social democrat. How quick we are in hindsight to paint the populist as the conviction politician. There is little doubt that Kevin will be affectionately thought of as a conviction politician for some reason or another. By the same reasoning that Keating didn't care what others thought you could claim Rudd unashamedly uses ridiculous words that nobody has ever heard of or understands because he likes them.
3. Keating was a practicing catholic like Iron. Hawke was the agnostic.
4. The free market man was treasurer Keating, he was a lot more Keynesian when the buck had to stop with him.
5. You don't think if Australia did go into recession Rudd would say something like "There was no avoiding this recession" much like what Keating said? Keatng went about telling people in 1995 that the budget would be in surplus by the 97 budget. It was ten billion in deficit.

My mums standards are low, but they're not that low.

You are against the raising of the pension?
Yes. Reduces incentives to self-fund. I don't know what raise they made, but it should be fixed to the CPI for the time being, and gradually eroded to nothing in the coming decades.

And you opposed the 2008 tax cuts as well then?

No, I support them.

I suppose that's a reasonable thing the government did, it's not exactly an inspired move in contemporary Australian politics though.

Paul Keating pwns.
Why isnt there a Paul Keating group on BoS yet? I want one.
I don't get it. I would have thought that in terms of being the socialist/darlings of the left Chifley and Whitlam would have it allover Keating. If its the inspirational, patriotic icon stuff then Curtin would be labors greatest prime minister and if its the man of the people thing you look for then it would be Bob Hawke. How does Keating end up being the lefts nominee for no1pm?
