Hey guys..
in interviews when they ask, about your previous employment, they usually ask
"are you still working at coles (or wherever you work)?"
"why did you leave?"

i was asked this at an interview, and my mind went completely blank.. and the only excuse i could think up was "study comitments",
im pretty sure that was not good enough becuase they asked me why i didnt go back after my exams.. ><

whats the best way to answer a question like this???

hm i would have said something along these lines

"there were multiple reasons as to why i left my previous position at coles. the primary one would be the fact that i wanted to focus all my attention on my senior studies as the hsc is a very stressful period of time and needs maximum commitment. the second reason as to why i left coles [or wherever it is u worked at] was due to the fact that i, as both an individual and employee felt the need to expand my horizons and attain new traits, both as an indivual and as a team member, simply put, coles just could not fullfill my eager thirst for personal achievement and increased knowledge, something that i am hoping this new job will provide me with. "

yeah im sure hes going to memorise all of that..
besides, if i was an interviewer in the HR department, anybody who vomits out rubbish like that in front of me will instantly fail the interview.i would go so far as to say to stop wasting my time and end it right there. just be frank, it got me great jobs without the need to sound all technical and up myself. when you answer the question just connect with the interviewer and try to draw them into relating to your situation. now THAT works!
but if its something bad like getting fired obviously try to avoid saying that. i wouldnt tell employers how in my last job i was accused of stealing money out of the till and that i told the cunt to get fucked, lol.

I was honest (whoa!)

I said that I was staying at work mainly to help my boss. She was planning on selling, with the handover to be completed in late january, so I decided not to come back from my holidays in January. Didn't mention that she didn't manage to sell the store.
Also it was a 2 hour commute, which is inconvenient and meant I couldn't be called in on short notice.

If they ask again in the interview I'll also mention that I want to do something new, get some new skills in a related industry.

I won't mention the 17 year old shits who kept fucking me over by not turning up to work when I was managing the store. Nor will I mention that I was the only person there who gave two shits, and I got sick of having to pick up everybody's slack. It sucks when you're the only person who actually feels the need to do the job well.

*sigh* Oh, if you read this, potential employer, I'm an awesome employee. I hear that googling potential employees names is very common.

My previous job was Woolworths.
I said to Target
"After working there for a while, I came to the conclusion that groceries was not what I was after, and I felt I would be more comfortable in a department/retail store... So I thought Target or Big W"

And I was about to say something, I can't remember what it was, however the Operations Manager (who I was having my interview with) interrupted and said
"Target's better anyway"
So I just agreed with it.

She seemed fine with it. I sort of expected to be asked that question, so I had my answer ready.

Mine ended. It was only a two-week thing, so my employment ended after about seventeen days (yes, I know that's more than two weeks).

Went from pay by hours to commission pay to help pay for my fees, books and etc it's shit if you don't make any sales = no pay but when you make sales you can easy make around $250 - $500 ($1000 if you're lucky) in one day, that can last for over a week to pay for food/school/petrol.
