Usually around midday on the day before the HSC results are released. This is soon after the first in course award ceremony.

WHen and how are people notified if they topped the state?

Phone call a few days before HSC results are released. I wouldn't sleep next to the phone though.

Probably or Monday-ish, i doubt first in course people need that much notice to turn up to such a ceremony since theyd drop everything and run to the place!
