Its difficult to judge ranks required in particular schools. Instead I am giving you the approximate marks you need for a 97 ATAR. The numbers in brackets are the statewide percentiles, ie. the percentage of the state that you must beat to get that mark.

Chemistry 90 (89)
Economics 90 (88)
Maths X1 87 (60)
Maths X2 84 (40) for an ATAR of 98 - the stats don't go any lower
English Adv 90 (88)

What you should do is ask your teachers how many people at your school typically beat those marks, and that will give you an estimate of your required rank.

if you go to a comprehensive school- id say top 3. if youre in a high-selective school (normo/girra and better), youll be safe in the middle of your cohort.
