if you're deciding your career field based upon that question you are headed for the average wage. besides, there are far too many branches of medicine and law to say 'x or y' earns more.

Lawyers earn shitall graduate. You don't earn heaps until you reach 3rd year SA or partner level (which is about 12-15 years after graduating, on average).

And as Garygaz said, deciding career field based upon $$$ is not the best idea.

Anything you're passionate about has the best chance of earning you the most money.

apparently plumbers, bricklayers and welders get a shit load of money- lol to those who think doctors/lawyers earn the riches.
btw what <azure> said is pretty much true- do what you're passionate at- money will usually follow!

i know its bad to choose a job based on income but if you are going to put in all that effort in university to become a lawyer/doctor/actuary etc. you at least want to be rewarded with an above average income. i mean it would be crushing if you became a lawyer and were earning the same amount as a manual labourer.

If you want lots of money, become a dangerous goods truck driver.

No education needed.

6 figure starting salary.

I thought I may as well put a proper answer to this. Initially both doctors and lawyers are on similar salaries (circa $70k) but the law salaries definitely climb a lot faster than the medicine ones. To get to the higher salaries in medicine you need to specialise and/or open your own practice- both of which require time and capital. Law, like other professional occupations (i.e. accounting) typically have your development and growth costs borne by respective employers who need to train you up to be more useful, but at the same time they need to pay you enough to motivate you and stop you from leaving to go to the private sector. Whilst medicine also has the public vs. private sector, the draw from one or the other isn't as significant as what I'd see in a professional occupation whereby the firms need to do a lot more to attract and retain talent from leaving to an easier and better paid job in industry.

As for science stream... if you're good at maths, get a job as a trader or something.

No idea, I haven't had a chance to speak to him since. It's an intense career pathway, least to say.
