I thought the imaginative journey was the change in attitude and mentality of the character, not necessarily a journey where they are thinking about going on a physical journey. or would my take be an inner journey instead?
like in lime tree is the journey the change in emotions or him envisioning himself going for a walk?

I think you have a point there. I think imaginative journey could give an inner journey too. Like "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" the wedding guest was changed in person after he went through the imaginative journey.

But what I would descibe imaginative journey is that it is a journey of imagination, inspiration and speculation, which helps us learn something more about ourselves and the world we live in.
