I usually take

Laptop
Few pens
Exercise books&/lecture notes

or

Textbook/s
Few pens
Exercise books&/lecture notes

In terms of a bag a schoolbag is pretty much what I'd take - I use shoulder bags which are a pain in the ass as some books are so thick.

You probably want to take food or atleast bring a drink from home unless you are a coffee junkie.

It depends on what your day is like. I've gone to uni some days with nothing, other times with laptop, books, pens etc.

Your lecturer will probably put the lecture slides up before the lecture. Print them off, and write notes on them. Saves you writing out everything in the lecture. Take a pen or two, maybe an exercise book. You'll find within the first month you'll develop something that suits.

I would suggest chewing gum. Might help in keeping you awake - and apparently it helps your memory too!

^ I'd also suggest contraception as well, if that's going to happen.

Depends on your day, and your subjects. For me, laptop (always), exercise books (for tutorials, as well as maths courses where taking notes on a computer isn't feasible), textbooks (for tutorials that need them)... and, uh, a pen, my phone and my wallet. :p

And pants. Always bring pants.

Unless you're a girl. Though I saw a girl wearing pants yesterday - so maybe that's a new fashion trend or something =P
