hey im deciding between going to UTS or UNSW which is better?
i want to do biological sciences at UNSW (73UAI) or environmental biology at UTS (71.8UAI). does anyone know if they are the same or different? which uni would teach it better...?

i go to UNSW and id have to say that teh teaching is pretty good

well, UNSW Biological Sciences encompass many things, like genetics, botany, animal physiology, environmental science, ocean biology, invertebrate biology and marine science. So you have a lot of choices in terms of fields of specialisation. The teaching is pretty good. The classes are generally small so you can interact with tutors and lecturers more easily.

Yeah i'm having a similar dilema, cant decide between

Enironmental Biology
Urban Ecology
Marine Biology
all at UTS

OR

Environmental Managment or science at macquarie

Yes, well...probably, but I'm in first year, so not really. Actually, I dunno what my major is gonna be, but it'll be something in those areas. Essentially though, as was said, the lecturers are awesome and friendly, the tutors and great and the labs are pretty fun. There are field trips too, dunno about UTS. As Survivor said (the resident UNSW bio expert), there are tonnes of different courses in that area too. Checkout the handbook website for more detail.

As to your question "does anyone at either of the uni's that i specified actually do one of the courses im looking into?" from mysterious00, many science students (from any schools or specicalisation) would have done biology in their first year, either as a core subject or an elective. So yes, we have done biological sciences. I did a third year bio subject in second year and the classes are very small, around 20-25 per subject. So it is very easy to talk to lecturers and tutors. It's just that if you do environmental science, you would be doing mostly BIOSXXXX subjects, whereas someone like me who does microbiology and immunology, would do a few BIOSXXXX subjects.

I think comparing the two degrees, they would be similar and you will probably come out as an environmental biologist both way. So it's really your individual preference as to which uni you like better. Unfortunately, I don't think there is anyone here who would have done BOTH degrees and can tell you which one is "better".
