They have a website about it, which doesn't have much info on it now, but they'll add info as it gets closer to the date here.
Oh fantastic, Usyd is still insisting on calling it 'Sydney Uni LIVE!!!!!!!!!1!!' instead of giving it a proper name. I suppose that means we can't hope they'll drop the excited 'student' pictures any time soon.

Re: when is USyd's open day?

Our school went to some presentation at sydney Uni last year on HSC subject choices. It was pretty useless.

Although I'm a bit interested in different Uni courses, because every second person you run in to these days is asking you "so what do you want to do?" and I'm stuck saying "um.. science?" and then feeling dumb because I don't know about different Uni courses for science.

but I'm not really sure, do they tell you about different degrees at open days?

Re: when is USyd's open day?

I think they have lectures for different courses, but not for every course. When I went, they had a lecture for advanced science.

Re: when is USyd's open day?

I think there are some general presentations on degrees (like 'Studying in the Faculty of Economics and Business' and things along those lines) as well as a few on specialised degrees like Sci Adv, Arts Ad, Liberal Studies.

We had those "uni days" too: USYD, UNSW and MQU. They didn't really do much. I don't know, I wasn't thinking of going to an open day, but now I might try to recruit some mates into coming with me to USYD's. No harm in it, eh?

Re: UAC booklet

Incidentally, if anyone hasn't yet been deluged by Sydney Uni student recruitment material (ho ho ho, what a silly idea that is), the open day is on Saturday 25 August. Only 23 sleeps to go!

Lolz.

I'll be at USYD in the morning sessions, but not so sure for the afternoon, so we'll have to see about that.
There`re morning & arvo sessions ?
I thought it was just one continuous session all day lol xD

It is one full day, however there are sessions that are done in the morning and afternoon, for those people that can't make it to the university at particular times. I'll be there in the morning, but not so sure about the afternoon, depends on what plans I have before I go to a party that night.

The two-session thing only applies for the most popular talks, or 'mini-lectures' or whatever the hell student recruitment wants to call them. It's mainly for people who are also going to the UTS open day, I think.

Re: UAC booklet

UTS put on the best open days, especially with the demonstration of a tunneling scanning microscope.

Re: UAC booklet

Do the open days actually tell you anything worthwhile?

Or are they the typical lectures where they tell you all the stuff you always knew before such as the UAI cut-offs/entry options, the "transition" from school to uni, all the opportunities the course has etc...

Hmm..
ok so in April or something i went to this open day type thing at USYD... it was a selective one where only a certain number of students from each school could go ...

Anyway..
so i went to that and then just recently i got some invitation from the dean of science at USYD inviting me to the talented students science program...
and it's some luncheon thing on the same day as Sydney Live.

Now of course i wwas like very pleased at this invitation.. especially considering i dont even do science? nor did i sign myself up for this.

Can anyone tell me what the hell it is? or is it just some blanket invitation sent out? I figured it may be because of the openday thing iwent to at the beginning of the year.. but i never signed myself up for anything remotely science related.. i steered very clear.

Anyone else going?

It's probably from the thing you went to. The TSP is the Science Faculty's program for high-achieving students, so presumably they got the list from the earlier open day and assumed that a decent portion of the people who went will be interested in studying science.

Pretty much. There's nothing you get told that you can't get on the internet, but it allows you to ask questions about course structures and topic areas and so on, and it's probably easier than trying to navigate the massive uni websites. It's also good to get a look at the campus, I guess.
