Hey, just wondering (no actually, stressing) over this. Got a UAI around 92 and is it possible to get into med in uni (by transferring) next year? Plus how would I transfer? I'm not sure on the details. >_<

Also another scenario I'm confused:
Imagine a uni course with only *one* last spot in it.
There's student A and B competing for the *same* course.
Both students have same UAI.
But Student A put the course in preference 3 and the other in preference 8.
Who's gonna get that last spot?

Any ideas, guys?

well u can finish a degree then do postgrad med or do a bachelor of science or medical science and get good marks distinction+ and transfer

I would suppose anything science related is good but im just speaking from example: a guy did medical science and applied for med transfer after 2 years search the uni's there info there this is just basic stuff

wouldnt student A get it because he put it as a higher preference, while student b obviously doesnt see that course as a 'must'

well there are many ways it can pan out.
1. student with pref 8 gets an offer higher up on their preferences and the other student gets the spot
2. both students get a course higher up on their preferences and the spot would go to the next person down.
3. student with pref 8 gets the spot and student with pref 3 gets course higher up on their list.
4. both fight for the place and either both get rejected or both accepted. there could be an alternative selection criteria. (e.g. at latrobe uni for dent, they interview all the borderline applicants and distinguish that way).

there really is no set answer as unis vary and the course also makes a difference. but for things like science/humanities where resources can be stretched then i would think both would be accepted. however, if it was for dentistry/medicine then its hard to say as there are a set number of equipment sets and clinical placements and if they accept more than their quota, a student may miss out.
thats how i look at it anyway. could be wrong.

Preference rankings don't matter, I highly doubt the students would have the same uai, umat and interview score or same overall score.

There are no transfers in medicine, you need to apply again next year like everyone one else.

You will need to apply for medicine in 2010 as a non-standard.
The following universities take non-standards: UWA, Bond, UWS, JCU, UNCLE, UTAS and UNSW.

I think your best chances are with UWS, JCU and UNCLE as they only factor GPA, Interview and UMAT (bar JCU).

For UWS: GPA 5.5 +, Weighted UMAT score, Int.
JCU: GPA 5.75 min, Application quality, Int.
UNCLE: GPA ~5, UMAT, int.
UTAS: GPA 6+, UMAT
UWA: GPA 5.5+, UMAT, Int. (High competition)
Bond: GPA/UAI (50/50), UMAT, Int.
UNCLE: GPA/UAI (50/50), UMAT, Int.
UNSW: GPA/UAI (50/50), UMAT, Int.
