hey all, if anyone could list a few communication protocols that are used to retrieve a web page from a web server, or tell me a useful site for information about these, that would be really useful
cheers

The only world wide web protocol to retrive web pages is HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol).

If you want to transfer files ie browse server directories, then it is FTP (File Transfer Protocol).

All the others like X/Y/Z Modem, POP etc are either for email or other hardwares- not www.
