To transfer or not to transfer? (1 Viewer)

After seeing a friend studying forensics at UWS and maintaining a credit average with distinctions and a high distinction which allowed her to transfer to UNSW...makes me think if transferring to a more prestigious uni is worth the dilemma?

I will be studying media with the aim of a career in journalism, but obviously Macquarie isn't know for its media courses. Is it worth going through one year, maintaining distinctions and transfer to, say, UTS? - it gives me more incentive to aim high so no loss either way. But is it really as easy as that? Oh and I forgot to mention the hour and a half hour travel time, if I could transfer to UNSW, that time would be cut in half. Friends-wise...well not many mates from my school are going Macquarie. I have to say, the prestigious factor that everyone is boasting away right now is getting to my head but I know it's only superficial.

This is all theoritical at the moment, I might end up enjoying my time at Macquarie and even go for honors if possible making this thread redundant...but just in case, would it be worth the struggle to transfer to a different uni for journalism (if so, which one would you guys recommend?) and how exactly would you go about doing so?

If prestige is what you're after, then CSU is where you should be going.

Look, to be honest, journalism is going to be a difficult area to crack regardless of where you go. The thing I have against specific media degrees, is that they don't tend to promote open reading, or the general aspects that are going to get you the edge in the future. Yes they will teach you the technical skills and give you easy industry paths, but I've seen people get into journalism through other pathways.

I guess the question you want to ask yourself is, what area do you want to write about, and how are you going to get yourself published, because that's the real issue here, industry experience/exposure.
