Hey!! For all our essays this year in particular the AOS paper we have been told to formulate a thesis and to prove this thesis throughout the whole essay. However I find it really difficult to come up with the thesis, I either include too much, or not enough or the wrong information. My other problem is that it takes me a looooooonnng time to come up with the thesis. So if someone out there has some ideas on how to easily formulate and structure the thesis/opening paragraph in a short amount of time (exam conditions) could you please post here and let me know.

Thanx xoxoxo :)

Would it be better if i said "thesis statment" ? I was taught similarly to you, write a "thesis statement" and then use your essay to prove this thesis statement. This statement must be one sentence that summarises up what you see as your focus journey. It also must have some sort of your philosophical view/understanding of this journey.

If it takes you long to think of a thesis, i suggest you prepare one or two that you can use and render for the exam question. For me, i prepare an essay because that is how i work, i need some sort of logical ordering for me to follow as i find it easier to manipulate rather than just think of something on the spot. This way, under exam conditions, i know the structure and which order i'm going to write things in. Though for 5 minutes of that 40 mins, i plan out my essay in a form of a mindmap. This way, if i all of a suddeni become blank i dont have to start again-which wastes alot of precious time. In my mind map, i write down:
+Text type
+Audience
+Order i'm going to do my texts - with branching off, the quotes i'm going to use
+Words like: Therefoire, furthermore, similarly, contrastingly etc because i tendto forget using them if i dont remind myself before hand
