to be honest with you, physics and bio isnt a good combo.. mainly because chemistry involves both of them in some way or another, and unis usually like people doing chemistry fro science degreee. i do all three sceinces (phys/chem/bio) and i find biology and chemistry link. and physics and chem link. but i dont find any link between physics and biology. without chem. theres a "missing link"-i think its just wrong. i personally love biology.. the prelim courses for both physics and chem are boring, i can tell you that.
whether you're deciding to pick modern over either of the other subsjects is really up to you. ask yourself
+are you interested ?
+do you think you'll enjoy it?
+is your decision solely based on you, not anyone else?
+do you think you'll be able to handle it?
i obviuosly dont do modern, so i really cant judge which is the better :(

a) why are you picking modern then?
b) you'll find that if you do general maths, then you'll find physics a bit hard. i know some schools, if you want to do phsyics, then you have to do 3 unit maths. both courses will overlap in the HSC courses, so it would be easier. I know in year 11, my friends did 2 unit maths and they found it rather hard. and the ones that did general, didnt do well at all... sorry to scare you, but i think you should at least try to do 2 unit and stay on top if you're plannign to keep physics .. my 2 cents ..

but theres a trends though at various school. my friends school, they reccomended ext 1 maths for software, and obviuosly, you have some people who dont listen, and all the people who did ext 1 topped SDD. people in my school, those who topped phsyics all did ext 1 maths..

bah bah bahhhh

maths has little or no relevance in physics (only veryy general mathematics is needed in physics its just the level needed to apply it which makes physics difficult)

for eg. yr10 physics (= yr 7 maths...)

it does in the HSC year..i can se where you're going at sam04u, you're only talking about applications and concepts. what i'm talking about is saving your time studying and trying to understand things that you wont understand, when you alrerady know it, as they tend overlap in both courses. i found that 4 unit maths was in physics too (circular motion, centripetal motion). 3 unit maths in physics comes under projectiles. it places you (if youre doing ext 1 math) at a greater advantage over those that do just 2 unit maths. this doesnt mean that you cant come first in physics doing general or no maths at all.
