What do people use to take notes and stuff at uni? Just a spirex note book and a pen? Should I take a laptop to uni everytime I have a lecture?!

laptops are only useful if you use them wisely. So use paper and pen. Kinesthetic actions will help you learn more effectively.

i've always taken notes by hand.

it might just be cos i do journalism but i think taking notes is a very good skill to have.

i type up the shorthand when i get home, it sticks in my mind better that way.

if your doing civil engineering:

scientific calculator
lead pencil

that's all you need

I don't think a laptop is at all necessary. Just a book and pen will suffice. I'm thinking of getting a livescribe smart pen

So a pen and notebook will suffice for a commerce student? Dont even need a calculator?

Notebook for each unit
Pen, pencil, eraser, highlighter
Calculator for commerce/science/engineering sort of stuff...but mainly for tutes than for lectures, though most are small enough to take to lectures if you are keen.

Laptop.....meh, take one if you want to look like a pretentious fuck.

oddly so in a math lecture you will not find the need to reach for your calculator at all.

meh had laptops at school since year 7. we all need laptops. you wont be special, so dont feel embarrased to bring one. it is encouraged.

plus laptop saves you carrying textbooks and your back

lecture pad + pens are the best.

it's annoying to hear people typing and all when you're trying to listen to the lecturers =p

i find it helpful to just bring the lecture notes and a pen. maybe a highlighter for things that didnt make sense for future references.

bu generally you dont need to really bring anything and just listen to the lecture, or dont even bother going if you really feel like it haha

Just a question is it ok to record lectures? On a voice recorder i mean? because i get really distracted trying to take notes and often just miss half the stuff people are saying, i prefer just to listen. Im going to be doing Law/Arts: political and international studies.
