Hey everyone,

I've talked to a few people to get their perspectives on tutoring for bio and some say that it isn't necessary since it's mainly just content and as long as you learn it and understand it, you should be good. However, some are suggesting that I should do tutoring for bio. Is tuition for biology necessary for achieving a band 6? I know at the end of the day, it's up to me to put in the effort but would tutoring be extremely beneficial for biology? I'm already getting tutored for eng adv, chem and maths ext 1 and I'm not sure how I would feel if I were to get tuition for bio as well since that would be a lot of money and it would be quite overwhelming for me.

Thanks in advance!

I am having the same problem as you since I also decided to keep bio and drop chem for hsc. However, imo bio tutor is not necessary if you have a great study mindset and set a clear schedule to review the lessons in class every week. Bio indeed is a very heavy content subject, but personally I find HSC bio is quite fun, much more than prelim bio. Just pay attention in class, takes notes from various resources and constantly review the contents then you're good to go.

Depends, a tutor is not super necessary for the content as if you're motivated enough, it's self-learnable. However, imo the main utility I provide my tutees is really improving their exam technique. I can give them pointers on where to improve their responses, they they are lacking, give them sample answers etc..

Biology is like 95% exam technique so it's super important to hone in. I think the raw mark for first in state in my year was in the high 80s, which is ridiculously low, but also goes to show how pedantic they are about marking
